The timing of these amendment proposals is good. Watching the GOP stumble around on Presidential immunity if Kamala wins will be thoroughly entertaining.

Would be cool if they’d just, you know, work on common goals as a nation. Like, I dunno, climate change

For that, Republicans would need to be a political party. The thing we really need to understand as a nation is that right now, they're not. They're a cult of personality.

I think they're more interested in ways to retain power despite losing almost every popular vote of this century and a base of predominantly religious voters in steady decline.

You think addressing climate change is a common goal between Republicans and Democrats?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Surprisingly, in terms of the voter base, yes! About 70% of citizens polled say they think climate change is an issue that we should take steps to combat.

Republicans don't even believe in climate change. Why would Republicans endorse any policy that would help mitigate the issue when they don't think it's being influenced by man? You can't negotiate with bio-terrorists.

Cool. Excellent, even. This is big news.

But I don't need an announcement that you're going to be making an announcement. Just announce your progress. "I'm going to say something on Monday!" isn't news worthy, just tell me on Monday what he said.

This drives me absolutely nuts in news of all sorts.

That announcement of the announcement is probably not for you and me, but for the press so they can prepare and send the journalists who are familiar with the topic.

Thank you for the context, that makes perfect sense.

It's how they soften the ground and gauge reaction. He needs to tell a bunch of people in Congress and the Judiciary what he wants to do, so it's going to leak that he's going to say something. Better to leak what you want people to know, and then if details spill through some cracks here and there, it's less of a story.
