NEW DELHI (AP) — India and China have agreed to work urgently to achieve the withdrawal of tens of thousands of troops stationed along their disputed border in a long-running standoff, India’s government said.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, on Thursday on the sidelines of Association of Southeast Asian Nations meetings in Laos, where they stressed the need for an early resolution of outstanding issues along the disputed Line of Actual Control, the long Himalayan border shared by the two Asian giants.

As long as China claims Arunachal there can be no end to the conflict.

  1. Arunachal is undebatably part of the Indian continental landmass

  2. Arunachal is also the source of the Brahmaputra, which feeds over 400,000,000 people

India controls Arunachal. China can say whatever they want. That's not a reason not to work for peace at the border, particularly since we stand to gain significantly from having more trade with China.

@schizoidman no way China will back away, if they do it is temporary.
They're spreading themselves thin, occupying Tibet, intrusion into Bhutan, Xinjiang Uygurs
being "re-educated", Hong Kong, threatening Philippines in the South China Sea and harassing Taiwan.

哈哈哈。你不聪明。

Of course it's China that is spread thin. The beating heart of industry for the entire world.

I guess it will all bear out in time. I'm not worried for China.

I'm here now, everything is good.

Here's today's weather forecast.

Sure is a lot of rain.

Edit: This was fun. Sometimes I feel sorry for reactionaries because they really are quite stupid and they are so easily propagandised. They really don't understand how fucked they are.

Edit 2: I got utterly soaked today.

Neither side wants to station troops on the Himalayas. It is far too dangerous and expensive. During the last India-Pakistan war, more soldiers died due to the weather than in the fighting. A mutual withdrawal that both sides can trust is the best outcome.
