You know UFOs, Bigfoot, Atlantis, Mothman, Aliens, etc. Might "bee" a fun one to add.

Please dont make an /r/conspiracy on beehaw

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Agreed. There are hundreds of instances for that we can all join.

Even if OP makes a new account on another instance just to create it.

Agreed. As someone mentioned ... more of a highstrangeness or weirdnews.

Not sure if there's enough people right now for that, but eventually, it would be interesting.

And, this is my personal opinion, so long as there's a general agreement that it's entirely for funsies and not to be the next r/conspiracy.

I think specific steps would need to be taken to prevent it from becoming another r/conspiracy rather than a general public agreement, but I'm honestly not sure what steps those would even be..

There's one hosted on lemmy.ml, might be better just to use one another community has already hosted and has subscribers for: [email protected]

Personally I feel that belongs on another instance

I think a cryptid community could be real fun.

I personally would love that.

Tbh I never really liked the paranormal communities on reddit either (they literally became an endless influx of "aRe ThEsE oRbS??" posts with nighttime ring footage of bugs flying by).

I would love to see something more like the /x/ board of a certain internet hate machine site, or at least the 2010s version of it before it became an endless stream of "sUmMoNiNg TuLpAs???!" posts.

Almost all of them nowadays just devolve into antisemitism unfortunately

I’d be cool with a community along the “arcane and esoteric” lines, which for me is more of a vibe than anything else? eg. The Mysterious Files of Ms Basil E Frankweiler and other mysterious-fantasy-or-sorta-spy novels, letterboxing (similar-to-but-not-exactly geocaching), Cicada 3301 and other unsolved puzzles, video games that fit the vibe, tarot card art, etc.

but that’s probably different from paranormal stuff

I say go for it.

There are quite a few in the Fediverse. Try the search bar, type in a topic, and give it a moment. (Sometimes it’s a bit slow to retrieve.). New communities are constantly being created, too, so check again in a few hours. It might be redundant to create one on Beehaw when there are already so many.

Edit: searching “UFO” gave me a long list of results, and several communities about UFOs, and I’m sure there will be more tomorrow. You can subscribe to one or all, and see them as soon as you log in. Set your front page to “subscribed” and you’re rolling!

I'd subscribe to it. Freaktech is an armchair interest of mine.
