Yes it is sad, but we Pirates need to stay strong even in the worst of storms! If you are unsure where your local pirates are feel free to send me a DM and we will try to find them together!

Increasingly it does look like Europe really is going dark.
Right-wing populism is on the rise through the whole continent, it‘s scary. I can feel it here in switzerland and can see it in neighbouring countries like france and germany.
Here in Finland the Left Alliance increased votes by 10% while True Finns(hard right party) decreased support massively across the whole country. Only one true finn got voted in.
So at least we got that going for us...
Call them by their chosen name. Basic Finns.
It is surprising how much the landscape changed in just 5 years. All the right wing parties got a boost, but most importantly, the ultra right and christian right parties. All those are surely going to want to implement ChatControl and measures like that because "We need to protect our children!"
I'm also scared of all the new Q-Anon type parties that last time didn't even exist and this time won a few seats. Ultra right conspiracy theorists that now have more seats than even the pirates.
Also look at the results from Gernany or Austria. AfD and Orban. Pro nazi and pro russian parties. We're going back in time for a remake.
I don't understand why everyone's so hell bent on turning the EU into yet another authoritarian mass surveillance state.
My guess is funding from Russia/China and libertarian foundations run by Rupert Murdoch and the Koch brothers

Yeah this is sad. Aside from his normal MEP duties, Breyer did incredible journalistic work on the EU plans on centralizing incredible power and creating a digital hellscape in Europe. They are planning to go full CIA on us.

That's a massive blow. Still, Czech Pirates have a bit of representation, so all hopes on them.

It's a sad day. E.g. former MEP Felix Reda did incredible work around the time of the 2017 EU copyright reform and helped the protests through transparency.
Now with the risk of badly written laws enabling (atm. restricted) surveillance, we'd have needed them more than ever. Luckily there's still MEPs from the Czech Republic in the EU parliament.
I considered voting for them, but I didn't.
The reason is because there are other parties with comprehensive plans for digitalisation / IT stuff PLUS lots of other plans for healthcare, economy, infrastructure, etc.
Pirate party seems like a party focused on IT stuff only, whereas I also care about other topics, such as international trains, subsidizing healthcare, improving education and lots of other things.
(I voted for Volt Nederland BTW)
Well as a represenetive of the Swedish Pirate Party I can only speak for them. But here in Sweden we don't only focus on "IT stuff", but also things like for exampel Immigration, Education, Klimate and Cultural politics and allot more! And from what I have understood from our fellow European Pirates they do to! Maybe not all but if they don't have it yet I'm sure they are working on it! And I'm sure that if you where to talk to them they would love to hear your thoughts and opinions!
After all we are all equals on the Pirate Ship!

Yeah, I voted for the Pirate Party but I'm probably gonna vote for Die Linke (eng.: The Left) next election

Look at the USA, UK or countries like China. I think they're all ahead if us. Leading in different fields. A skewed balance between capitalism and citizens rights, surveillance in general, and a dystopian surveillance state.

Yeah, this vote was a disaster... I didn't vote for them but its really hard to see them go

Maybe I should have. But fighting fortress Europe seemed more important (not to say that pirates don't do this, but their focus is on digital topics). The strategy of connecting with the non Parliament left and making carola rakete second of the list by the left party gave me the impression that they would be a better choice.
I felt my vote needed to be aginst the extreme right. The pirate party is more of a secondary needs party, once primary beeds have been taken care of. Digital freedom isn't worth much if you're living under the threat of fascism regarless.
