I know we're not federated with lemmygrad but hexbear seems more leftist in general rather than pure tankie/ML. They'll also be the biggest (or second biggest?) instance when they start federating.

What are the general thoughts on it? I personally wouldn't mind and browse hexbear every now and then already so I might be biased. I think there's a fair amount of likeminded people there though.

They are currently on the block-list here.

I don't really see any substantial difference between them and lemmygrad.ml and in fact a lot of the active users seem to have accounts on both sites.

I guess they are somewhat less tankie leaning, but make up for it with shere toxicity and low effort shit-posting. I don't really want to have to moderate that here all the time given that their admins are highly unlikely to do it on their end.

Maybe their current toxic community will dilute out a bit over time and removing them from the block list could be considered in the future. But right now I don't think this would be a good idea especially given the huge size difference of our community.

Their thread on federation: https://www.hexbear.net/post/280770 for those interested.

Considering the entire thread of their announcement is people talking about going into it specifically to antagonize and stir shit, this is not going to end well for anyone. They might as well not reiterate federate because they're going to end up blocked everywhere sane in a few weeks

Just leaving this here, I feel the discussion/comments in that post really showcase how the community of hexbear interacts with instances they federated with. https://lemm.ee/post/4543536
