The next Doom game, allegedly titled Doom: The Dark Ages, will be revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, according to a new report.

Insider Gaming reports that the next installment in ID Software's legendary FPS series had previously been known under the codename Year Zero, but that it now understands Doom: The Dark Ages to be the game's official title. The reveal of the game's title comes after earlier reports that indicated a new Doom game would make an appearance at the showcase.

Not much is known about this new entry, but according to the report, it will take place in a "medieval inspired Doom world" and could potentially serve as a prequel of sorts to 2016's Doom and 2020's Doom Eternal. Whether or not the game will include some form of multiplayer is still unknown.

I'm imagining a modern version of Witchaven 2: Blood Vengeance and I'm all for it.

Sidenote, I really liked Doom (2016), but I didn't care for Doom: Eternal at all.
