Honestly I'm glad that reddit is going down the tubes. It's time for a change.
I have already made the transition to mastodon and now lemmy. I am loving the change and the freedom we are all gaining.
I like the website. I like the idea. I like lack of advertising and hyper-paranoia and consumer algorithms.
What I don't like is some of the devs describing themselves as 'communists' and 'anarchists.'
Extremism is never a good look, and the fact that Lemmys founders are... Definitely tickling that dragons tail is concerning to me
I'm still tapping the spot where RIF used to be, going to take some time to move on.
I put Jerboa where RIF used to be
It's not quite the same, and needs some refinement, but it'll do
Just got here since Apollo is going away and I wonβt use Redditβs app. Not sure I quite get how it works yet, so canβt say how I like it so far. Gotta play around with it a bit. Are there any apps for this yet?
The whole lemmy concept mixed with the current situation feels far more like you are part of a real community. Kinda like in old internet days. I will even break out of my reddit lurker days and try to contribute here.
Jerboa kinda sucks and Lemmur straight up doesn't let you sign in.
A lot of communities are unfortunately missing, the Lemmy devs should do a better job of advertising the platform to Reddit expats so we can have more content.
I'm hoping some third party Reddit apps rewrite themselves to support a Lemmy backend.
I'm confused yet intrigued
This is my first comment here, hope I'm doing it right!
Hello! Looks nice, I realize it will probably take some time to get used to, but I hope the community will grow. I mod a sub on Reddit and we are thinking about a blackout in protest, in any case it would be cool to set up shop here in the fediverse :)
The Jerboa app though could use with some improvements to navigate the different communities.
Confused? Excited! Yes to both! Will take a while to get acclimated and understand how it all works together, different from Reddit as this seems to be separate and together at the same time. Glad you're all so open to accept the Reddit refugees, have felt very welcome, so a very big thank for that.
Thanks for having us! I'm excited to try this out. I am only just trying to figure out how all of this works.
I have subscribed to several communities now, but when I go to the main page, I still see the generic content that was there before I logged in. How do I view a feed of just the communities I have subscribed to (analogous to the front page on reddit)
I suppose the Reddit issue has at least got me to look into Lemmy. Seems interesting, albeit quite small. Still, oak trees grow from small acorns, etc, etc. ;-)
I appreciate the speed, at least right now, faster than reddit so that's a bonus !
I dig it.
New here and ready π«‘
I like it so far. Finding communities is a bit difficult though, but I hope more niche communities will be made once more people join. Threads that aren't related to Reddit/Lemmy dev. are a bit slow, but that's to be expected since Lemmy is still growing. All in all I'm feeling quite optimistic and I really like scrolling through my feed in general.
i'm just excited that i was able to make an account... lemmy.ml didn't want me. anyway, i'm just here to browse and see what i find.
It's similar to Reddit in many aspects, which definitely helps. I had to come over from Reddit after they killed the third party app I've been using for the better part of a decade. Excited to see where this goes.
Still getting used to it, so far I like it. Bummed to lose Reddit, but glad to have found a new place.
Hello it's great to be here!
I'm enjoying it. The mobile PWA needs a card view like the MLEM app, unless I'm missing something.
@immadeofgold I'm pretty excited despite it being daunting. It reminds me of the 90s internet days. Looking forward to learning something new and fun.
is there any advantage of using one instance vs another? I made accounts on both kbin and lemmy.world, is it all the same except whatever UI i prefer?
When i visit some communities in kbin, it tells it the posts might not all be up to date
Seems good so far, having some lag issues but that's unsurprising. I'll join a couple of communities and see how it goes over the next few weeks/months.
