So we're visiting Denmark this summer and I've been researching what places are fun to visit with kids. We're staying near Hjørring, so that's pretty north.

I already wrote down the north sea aquarium and Råbjerg Mile. I'm hoping for something viking related as well? And what else? Anyone have any ideas for me?

Take a trip to Skagen, for sure. If that is too far, you might want to consider Lønstrup and eat at Villa Vest for instance.

Hjørring is quite boring honestly. I grew up in that area.

Not sure Villa Vest is "fun for kids" 🤷‍♂️

For Viking stuff, you can visit Lindholm Høje, which is close to Aalborg, the biggest city of Northern Jutland, which is also worth a visit (45mins by car from Hjørring). There’s an old monastery made into a museum underneath the city centre!

A bit further south is Fyrkat (about 1h15mins from Hjørring), one of Harald Bluetooth’s famous ring “castles”, which have been added to the UNESCO world heritage list last year.

Lindholm Høje for the closest place with something viking related. Otherwise there's also Fyrkat near Hobro that you'll find on UNESCOs World Heritage sites.

There is not much to do in Hjørring… and nothing in regards to vikings..

But here are a few suggestions:

Løkken, best Beach in dk… Lønstrup - charming little village by the sea Northernmost point - grenen (in Skagen) with colliding seas And of course … Fårup sommerland! Best amusement park in dk…

On the other coast, sæby is a sweet town, There is also a waterpark inside the scandic hotel in frederikshavn, that is great for kids.

Hirtshals has a lighthouse you can climb, and also German bunkers.

Fårup Sommerland! If weather is bad Skallerup Klit Feriecenter has a really good indoor tropical water park. Hanstholm bunkers museum. Oceanarium in Hirtshals. Råbjerg mile. Rubjerg Knude Fyr.

My favorite places as a kid.

For Viking related stuff go to Lindholm Høje north of Aalborg (google it) or maybe go visit Aggersborg - perhaps Fyrkat if you’re comfortable with a bit of a drive. If you like to just imagine seeing stuff there’s a Viking Age shipyard in Rold Skov (buried, obviously).

However, northern Jutland isn’t exactly Viking Country anymore.

There's a bunker museum in Frederikshavn if you're into WW2/Cold war stuff.
