I have to wonder if this was done intentionally to "show" investors that people don't want the classics anymore.

You know what, that's fine by me. Let AAAs keep learning the wrong lessons. It makes more room for indie titles to crop up.

But if they learned the right lessons we could be getting really good indie games and really good AAA games.

But they're not going to. At this point lots of people still buy AAA titles that are bad. The quicker AAA companies get a widespread bad reputation among casual gamers, the better. We all know AAA has been and will continue to go downhill, so I just wish it would happen sooner.
