Thanks for updating us!
Had I known you were a bootlegger, I wouldn't have been so concerned about you drinking Snaps.
There is far worse spirits out there, you mentioned some, Slivovitz is another..

Slivovitz is amazing, had some home-made once and it was the bomb.

If you want a true Copenhagen specialty, as served in low-brow, seedy bars in the wrong parts of town, try a shot of 1 part akvavit and one part whole milk. Mix and drink, no ice. The booze should be cold, though.
By the way, did you drink it at room temp or chilled? If you haven't tried it chilled, do that. Leave it in the freezer, not the fridge, until it's frosty. Or you can just keep it in there, why not. Pull out, pour, drink what you poured in one go. As always, it's best with someone else. Don't forget to say "aaaahhhh..." (as in enjoyment and reinvigoration, not surprise and fear)
Edit: Now get a hold of some Gammel Dansk.

Aww, man. I love Gammel Dansk. It's kinda like Jagermeister without the sugar.
Edit: I must admit, though, that this is not something to get drunk on. I did that once, and it yielded a weird and nasty hangover. Gammel Dansk is good for three shots for breakfast while on vacation in Northern Jutland.

The earliest known reference to "aquavit" is found in a 1531 letter from the Danish Lord of Bergenshus castle, Eske Bille to Olav Engelbrektsson, the last Roman Catholic Archbishop of Norway. The letter, dated April 13, accompanying a package, offers the archbishop "some water which is called Aqua Vite and is a help for all sort of illness which a man can have both internally and externally"

You just have to get a bit used to Akvavit and drink it VERY cold - after that, it's actually... okay? Still gives you "krzywy ryj", but it can be quite enjoyable.
But in my opinion, Gammel Dansk, or any of the liquorice-flavoured spirits can be WAY worse than bimber if you're not used to it. Ale ciesze się, że smakowało!
