I would just wait before doing any crazy. I would assume they can get a new domain, and migrate current environment there. Probably causes few issues for few days.

If you want to support smaller instances (which is of course good), then you should create new account somewhere.

I have created that account at a smaller instance, and I am wonder how to sync subscribed communities

I had no idea, so I'm glad this was posted - thanks!

I'm wondering, since I also have a kbin account, how effectively can I follow all the subscriptions I've had on Lemmy.ml?

I use Liftoff as my main app currently, and I assume I am probably yet to fully use its capabilities since I'm not always getting some of my subscriptions coming up, especially the kbin ones I found there and subscribed to from my Lemmy account.

I guess creating backup accounts elsewhere is always a good idea (regardless of the stability of a given instance - I mean who'd have guessed the whole Mali thing? lol)

on that matter, does anyone know where I can find a list of instances that don't have swearing censorship? I've finally finished my potty training and I think I'm ready for it

So does this dude lose everything ??? It would be nice if servers could sync user data so that if one goes down you don’t lose your user.

That’s done by running your own instance. Where else should your Lemmy identity be kept? On a server that could go down just like any other server running Lemmy.

If you want 100% control of your own Lemmy identity, then you have to run your own Lemmy instance on your own hardware.

As far as I know, there isn't an account migration mechanism in Lemmy yet. I've heard (fourth hand at best) that it is in the works but hasn't been implemented yet. You may have to do it the hard way. Copy, paste and search.

There is nothing built into Lemmy, though there is at least one active PR working on it.

In the meantime I made this tool: https://github.com/CMahaff/lasim

It copies subscriptions, blocks, and some profile settings.

There are others too if you search for them.

Thanks for this, works like a charm and exactly what I needed. Especially nice that it does a delta and not simply overwrites the target profile (as I already had some new communities I was following in the target account).

Only thing I missed was a swap or reverse for Download and Upload, as I wanted to sync both accounts. Just meant I had to fill in both forms again, no biggie.

Thanks again!

Can you link to the active PR you mentioned? I can't seem to find it on the lemmy github.
