I will be visiting Denmark later this year with family for a wedding and wanted to ask about wheelchair accessibility as I am struggling to find a clear answer anywhere.

We will be flying into Copenhagen, and from there are supposed to be traveling via train to get to Stevns town hall. Will there be any issues with this? Getting off or on the train or out of the stations?

Also, from what I gather, buses are generally wheelchair accessible in the capitol but I have no idea about elsewhere. From the town hall, we are supposed to be going to Solgårdsparken to take some nice photos and will need the bus to get there. Wanting to check that I will be able to get onto the bus without issue, are there ramps to get onto the bus?

Lastly, if you are a wheelchair user are there any hotels in Copenhagen that you particularly recommend? Thank you.

Try to read this

Apparently you can order disability service to help you, through your journey.

I don’t know how it is in that area with busses, but in my town busses are generally pretty low, and the middle exit is wide to accommodate bicycles, baby carriages and wheelchairs, if you have someone to help you a wheelchair should be no problem.

With trains it’s a bit harder, there are generally two train types, IC3 which is an older model, there you will need to contact the train station or DSB ahead of time to arrange for someone to get out a ramp for you to get on the train, there is always a bicycle carriage where bicycles and wheelchairs can fit in during the trip, it’s can be a good idea to pay for a seat reservation there ahead of time.

The newer IC4 trains are low to the ground on the bicycle carriage part, and just like with the bus it should be no issue as long as you have a helper.

I can't specifically speak for Stevns since I've mainly used busses in and north of Copenhagen. I believe it's the same company (Movia) which services the bus routes in Stevns and in Copenhagen. Most of the busses I've used have wheelchair ramps and also have specific stop buttons to push which alert the busdriver that they need to assist getting off the bus at the next stop (the regular stop buttons are red, the assistance ones are blue).

You can download the app "rejseplanen" (Journey Planner, app for public transport in Denmark) to see what bus you're going to be taking. I tried looking at the bus trip and it appears you'll be taking bus 251.

Looking at: https://dinoffentligetransport.dk/en/how-to-travel/disabled-persons

You should be able to get on the bus with your wheelchair, but from what I can read on the Danish version of that page (which annoyingly is more detailed), not all busses have electric ramps, but I'm pretty sure they all are wheelchair accessible. There is a number there on the page which you can call and potentially ask about the specific departure.

Sorry for the word vomit, writing on mobile.

Accessibility in Denmark is very bad in general, it would be smart to bring a ramp. And the bus generally do have a ramp but it's manual and the driver is not allowed to get up and help so you have to have someone help activate it.

I travelled in most western EU countries with wheelchair and Denmark and UK is by far the least accessible, so if you have your own ramp bring it

It depends on when you are going. I am a local, and normally you would be fine with public transportation the whole way from the airport, but they are relaying tracks at the end of your train trip, from Hårlev to Store Heddinge. Until that is done the are replacing the train with tourist busses, and I don’t know how easily accessible they are.

Your trip to Solgårdsparken should be fine, normal busses shouldn’t be a problem.
