When I was a kid, during the 90s I lived what it is considered the Disney Renaissance: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Renaissance

And I was wondering if this was happening with Disney videogames as well. Some very high quality games came to my mind, like Aladdin and The Lion King for 16 bits consoles, Hercules for the PS1? And so.

Do you think there was an equivalent to Disney Renaissance un games during the 90s? And if so, what games would define it?

On the Genesis, Mickey Mouse 's Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion were great

I think the renaissance for games started a lil later than the movies, but also lasted a little bit after with it ending with the end of the PS1 generation (some cross-gen stuff early on with PS2 too).

Games for films that are not in the renaissance like Treasure Planet and Emperors New Groove are stellar in my opinion.

I believe some games for renaissance movies were quite bad, like Pocahontas and Little Mermaid but I haven't played them myself. I tried Beauty and the Beast some time ago and even the controls were quite bad I found the animation and graphic quality quite good.

Aladdin and Lion King were triple-A games back then, and there were also some good Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck games.

That's why I think it started a little later than the start of the renaissance for the movies. Once you get passed some of them awkward early ones the games really hit their stride.

There was a big push in that time with the animation coming from Disney themselves, games like Mickey Mania too. The next big push was Kingdom hearts, which seems to be a push to the east as it's the same time they were publishing Ghibli films in the west.

Games generally haven't seen much of a lull I guess rouge-likes would be the genre that had the biggest drop to resurgence similar to Disney.

I like the Hercules game so much, I think it is one of those games that I can "dumbly" replay 😅

Dude that Aladdin game sucked, I could never get past the flying carpet through the lava stage :(

That was one of my crowning achievements as a youngster.

Picked up Aladdin from blockbuster and was able to beat it in one weekend. I was proud

Skill issue ;p

The game is hard, no doubt about it, but not unbeatable. And overall, it's a quality product
