It's very safe for the 1.2 people inside the car. But for the 8 billion people outside of it, it's their problem I guess.

Ironically, it's not even safe for those 1.2 people!
SUVs are more likely to be crashed, because they're bigger and heavier, and therefore more difficult to manouever and, crucially, take longer to stop.
They're also more likely to roll and more likely to catch fire than smaller vehicles. Also they create more air pollution and the people most exposed to that pollution are the people in the car!
So, yeah. When, like this person, people buy an SUV to protect their children, they're actually putting them at greater risk while also showing a casual disregard for the people around them.
I mean sure if they previously drove a motorcycle I could understand this argument but I drive a tiny fiat 500e and I've been hit by a car...who had road rage and you know what? 0 injuries. Modern cars are incredibly safe and moreso because they have less MASS.
