Hello, Protestant German here. I’m hearing a lot about the infamous Quran burnings in Sweden, and find it very strange. To me it’s fighting fire with fire, and as Muslims are very religious I can imagine it hurts them a lot.

Can someone help me understand how this makes sense?

Maybe I don’t have the full picture. Thank you!

I actually value the victims of militant islam higher, alot of people have died through the ages in the name of that book.

But its not really about that either way, its about our constitutional laws and that we wont bend them for any religious group.

The only solution as i see it, if we dont want qurans burnt is making burning books illegal all together. Having special laws for muslim related stuff is a no-go.

The whole idea behind burning the Quaran is to show everyone that Islam is not the peaceful religion it claims to be - quite the opposite.

The burning of the Swedish embassy is the ultimate proof, and the book burners got exactly the reaction they wanted.

Mission accomplished. What now?

  1. You have to ask the persons doing this.
  2. This isn’t Sweden doing this.
  3. Upsetting religious sentiment is something muslims will have to deal with living in a secular country.

I do. You think Religion is stupid and fear your Aryan happy place is threatened by Muslims. So you insult them, to make them angry, so you can justify you being racist, as being tolerant. I absolutely get it.

You are sarcastic and not willing to understand. A vast majority of Swedes dislike the koran burnings. At the same time we do not want to change our constitution to accomodate for religion. You do not understand Sweden in the least. Yes, some of us are racist and while most aren’t, what we are not, is willing to be pushovers.

The real question is how to justify medieval blasphemy legislation in a modern democratic society.

They are not "very religious". They are very angry, insecure and doubt their religion. Very religious persons are very seldom violent.

Thank you for all the comments! So there seems to be a cultural acceptance of open racism vs Muslims plus a lack of understanding how important religion and religious things can be to people.

Thank you very much for making this clear.

Being muslim isn't a race, my dude, how is it racism? There are plenty of people from that region who don't go insane because someone burns a mass produced book, and those people aren't the problem here. The problem is people who have decided to believe in a fantasy that is at odds with reality, and go nuts when others dont accept that fantasy. Religion should ve abolished imo. It is obvious that you weren't really curious when you started this thread.

It’s just super ignorant and uneducated to dictate what is allowed to be believed and what not. It is even dumber to make fun of people for their beliefs. I genuinely didn’t know so many Swedes were degenerate Nazis. And it seems to be so accepted in your cultural. Ultimately it is a fear of your culture becoming irrelevant, without understanding that humanity evolves. I pity you.

I suppose some cultures evolved past the abrahamic religions, then? They are free to believe what they want, and they've been doing various stuff to swedish flags, who cares? If anything it is degenerate to force religion upon others like some sort of inquisition. It is medieval.

A question for you. Why is it illegal to practice freedom of speech in Germany??? Help me understand how that makes sense.

It’s not the Swedish state doing it, it’s just allowing it because the state has no right not to since it’s constitutionally protected. If you want to know why people burn the Qurans you should ask them. My best guess is because the riots that Muslims go in retribution feeds into a narrative for more votes, at least that’s the case with Paludan’s burnings. I’m not sure about the other people’s quaran burnings

Don't you dare say that it is indeed fighting fire with fire, camouflaged collective racism and an unnecessary waste of taxpayer money, unless you want to get downvoted until your comment is not seen.

It's about free speech.

I mean its kinda cute that the take out is that it is some for of provocation in and of itself. I would say from my perspective its a book being burnt, it could be any book but most people do not burn books so you're going to get someone highly motivated and well that person if so choosing could pick a book that would provoke someone, anyone, and then in fact set it aflame. Now this right is bestowed on everyone in Sweden, and i suppose a large part of the population would stand by the fact that this is a good system that is the best thing we would summon as a community in promotion of a open discourse.

Now again if the take away is "There also seems to be some need to prove Muslims are aggressive by taunting them to be aggressive."

I would assume that "open minded and egalitarian culture" is somehow perhaps a construct that you might have misunderstood?

No, there is no racism or lack of understanding to the important of religion. Again, you choose to make this into a problem. By replying in the way you did you are seen as a provocative human. Why should anyone obay under a religion? We want freedom, and we choose freedom in this country. Freedom is above all religions. Once you are free, you see how good it is.
