New Zealand Wizard: Yeah naw, you carked it, bro. That's a sweet-as fish. Seen it plenty of times on the poster in my shid. Kī tōnu taku waka topaki i te tuna.

In the Discworld series there are some parodied Australian wizards in The Last Continent book.

Ah Discworld, the series I'd love to read if it didn't require a flowchart to understand the order of the books.

I'm a huge fan, Rincewind is one of my fav characters. I think they can just be read in publishing order, whilst characters and some plot lines do crossover each book is a story on its own.

Colour of Magic is a perfect starting point imho.

They're intended to be standalone stories. I usually just go in release order though.

Pointy hats with corks from used potions dangling around the rim let's go.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

And when you finish brewing a potion, you just attach it to the hat.

Highly recommend this short series on YouTube called Wizards of Aus. It's great

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Thanks for the recommendation! I hope you don't end up with axe-face!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 months ago

Ah y'know if I do, it's nothing a little kiss from baby bones won't fix.

You call that an Ice Knife? That's not an Ice Knife... This is an Ice Knife.

(Or Thicket of Knives if you're more inclined to find paths.)

I mean, they are from down under...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

And spiders

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

No, they're mean posh

This is pretty much the plot of He Who Fights With Monsters. Australian gets Isekaied and proceeds to confuse and dominate. I highly recommend.

I'm a Texas Wizard, you cowpokes want to see a rope trick?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 months ago (2 children)

PSA: his "rope trick", while subjectively impressive, is just sexual assault he claims you consented to when you say yes.

"Pardon, ma'am, seems I've had one too many Shiners."

Radagast from LOTR comes to mind

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 months ago

But is his name Bruce, otherwise it may get confusing?

Casts Flamin' Galah

[–] fsxylo 5 points 6 months ago

Bloomin' onion is a level 3 spell.

I honestly don't think I've ever heard anyone actually use the terms "strewth" or "chockas" before

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Chockas is still somewhat used, strewth is if you're doing an disingenuous these days

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Might just be where I am in Australia or my age bracket that means I never hear the former. I've definitely heard the latter when folks are playing up their Australian mannerisms or are just taking the piss.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Yeah I feel you, like it's not hugely used so much these days but chockas or chockabloc is definitely used around NSW. Reckon it'll see extinction in the next generation or so though.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

Chocka/chockabloc is pretty common where I grew up, West Midlands in UK

Dodads and thingamajimmys!, Bonza!!. And I'll grab some Jandals and a Chilly Bin for my Cuz. She's been after a new home for her Ice Elemental. If I shout if for her, she should let me keep a few tinnies in there too.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Jandals? Chilly bin? You are confusing us with those across the pond mate. A capital offence I believe...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Nah bro, she's a distant relo. After her town got harassed by a bunch of Lazer kiwis from the South, she got on the blower saying she's comin' over and they need to summon some of Australia's greatest warriors.

I was chuffed, but she explained it wasn't me and we had to get some Emu plumes. Once we have enough for her to summon a mob, she'll disappear from here faster than Harold Holt.
