A new Postal Code came into force on the 1st of January 2024. This means that the special status of PostNord (formerly PostDanmark) is abolished and that older stamps are no longer usable for sending letters within Denmark.

Older stamps can still be used for sending letters out of Denmark. So your old stamps shown above can theoretically still be used to send letters abroad from Denmark.

However: Sending a standard letter (up to 100 grams) from Denmark abroad now costs 50 DKK (yes, this is mind-bogglingly expensive). That means that it'll take 100 of the old stamps shown above to send a standard letter abroad from Denmark.

That's about the amount I payed for them each. So I got scammed and the owner probably just wanted to get it of them?

They could be selling them to collectors, how much did you pay? If the purpose wasn’t collecting why wouldnt you just go to a post office?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

nullbyte420 at 2024-01-28 06:59:00+00:00 ID: kjx65ru

You bought collectors stamps dude. Resell them to some collector, or start your own. They really are very nice. I like the "flygtning 71" in particular.

Unless brought as a regular kiosk or similar with a PostNord sign outside, they have probably been selling stamps for collections. And at a regular kiosk you would not be able to pick up 1967 stamps

That said, I have no idea if these are that valuable for a collector

And postage, intended for mailing, is always sold without a markup

But they are 50 øre right? Or am I wrong?

Yes but did you pay 50 øre?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

sunturion at 2024-01-27 22:30:36+00:00 ID: kjv9162

the minimum price to mail a letter to germany is 50kr (new post nord prices since january first of 2024), so you'd need 100 * 50 øre stamps.

then again, i have no idea if that's even true.

if you really want to mail a letter to germany, you'd want to use the post nord app and buy postage through there.

Put a 50 dkr stamp onto it with one of the old ones.

I don't think anyone will say anything if you pay 0.50 dkr too much?

MessierEigthySeven (OP) at 2024-01-27 23:02:00+00:00 ID: kjvduy3

But you say if I would just use the old ones, they might won't arrive?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

KoldKartoffelsalat at 2024-01-27 23:07:39+00:00 ID: kjvepo1

Like the previous poster wrote, you'll need 100 stamps then.

It will arrive but they will send OP an invoice for the missing ‘porto’.

I'm a lurker from Ireland as I lived in CPH for a while, equivalent of 7 euro to send a letter is crazy. I know post isn't exactly competitive anymore, but that would cost 2.3 euro in Ireland to send to Germany. And even less to send to our big neighbour.

God PostNord are awful.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

sunturion at 2024-01-28 10:31:53+00:00 ID: kjxoab3

Yep, the new prices from January first are awful to, sending a standard letter within Denmark is 3.38€ and the delivery time is approximately 1 week

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

AgXrn1 at 2024-01-28 10:52:25+00:00 ID: kjxpyys

It's insane.

It's literally more expensive for my brother to send a letter to my parents (both living in Denmark) than it is for me (living in Sweden) to send a letter to my parents... and it's the same damn company.

My brother would need to pay 25 DKK whereas I would need to pay 36 SEK, which is equivalent to approximately 23.75 DKK.

Stamps are not valid to use after 1/1 ‘24 in Denmark due to some kind of Strange VAT rules. But stamps can still be used for international mailing - so you are lucky. But you will bog get alot for 3 x 0,50DKK…….

It's just the post service that decided it, the stupid fuckers. Parliament said they were wrong and it isn't legally required of them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Positive_Green_1285 at 2024-01-28 07:58:13+00:00 ID: kjxbiuv

No. The Parliament made a bad law, which the postal service is trying to follow to the best of their ability. Then the minister of Transport tried to save face by accusing the postal service of scamming people. But PostNord has actually made the decision after discussions with the Tax Department. You can read their response here

with 50 øre stamps you'd need 100 of those stamps for one letter to germany but im pretty sure they are invalid. what did you pay for them? pretty sure they are only collectors items now

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

MessierEigthySeven (OP) at 2024-01-27 22:57:51+00:00 ID: kjvd8ea

Can you say that again? 100? Crazy

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Sikkenogetmoeg at 2024-01-27 23:14:28+00:00 ID: kjvfqbu

50 øre is 0,5 dkk or about 7 eurocent.

It costs 50 dkk to send a letter to Germany - so you will need 100 of them.

They are. What difference does that make? Did you not think to check out the actual postage price before buying stamps, or why would you ever assume "3 of these 50 øre ones will do"?

Almost have to be trolling

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

MessierEigthySeven (OP) at 2024-01-28 08:37:29+00:00 ID: kjxeval

No, didn't think to check because I'm from Germany for a few weeks working in DK and I expected that the store owner wouldn't scam me with poststamps.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

MusicianAwkward8788 at 2024-01-28 11:14:46+00:00 ID: kjxrtk7

How does mailing work in Germany? Do you not have to match the value of stamps to be equal to the value of postage? If the owner told you that you would need 1.50 DKK then you were scammed yes, otherwise I would say it's a fair mistake

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Tumleren at 2024-01-28 08:46:57+00:00 ID: kjxfnfg

A store sold you these? Yeah, he scammed you big time. Even as collectors stamps these aren't worth that much

Also, sorry for being snide. I was just starting to think you were trolling.

Where did you buy the stamps? And how much did you pay? Seems like someone found a way to cheat tourists..

MessierEigthySeven (OP) at 2024-01-28 14:06:46+00:00 ID: kjy9hqs

Bought them at a souvenir store in Copenhagen for around 150 DKK. Didn't realize the amount at first because I'm used to Euro. But I should have, now I feel stupid.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Sikkenogetmoeg at 2024-01-28 14:23:28+00:00 ID: kjybngp

Damn, you got robbed! You shouldn’t beat yourself up about it - it even says 50 on The stamp. Sounds like a place that preys on non-Danes not knowing.

Where was it? You should name and shame them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Sikkenogetmoeg at 2024-01-28 10:02:45+00:00 ID: kjxlw19

I will try one more time:

To send a letter from Denmark you need to put stamps on the letter witg the correct amount of money.

To send a letter to Germany you need to put on stamps with a value of 50 kroner. You currently have stamps worth 1,50 kroner.

So you need to buy stamps for 48,50 more and put them on a letter to send it.

Bare lige for at supplere Rulle, vil jeg sige at man skal have 100 af dem her for at sende et brev til Tyskland.

Are you trolling? You bought three vintage stamps with postage worth little to nothing.

I don't think it's a scam. He probably assumed you are a collector, not a dumbass.

I really hope you don't by condoms the same place.
