A post to a news story about Apollo shutting down at the end of this month was already made, but I thought that the original post by the Apollo Dev was worth also citing. This is a VERY interesting read, though long. He also has audio recordings of all his dealings with Reddit of late.

I think after having read his write-up I feel a little better about leaving reddit. Hearing about how reddit treated Apollo’s developer just left a sour taste in my mouth.

Same. infuriating seeing a heartless corporation defame a good developer

Yep. Reading his write-up led to me joining Lemmy.

Im from reddit. Just came to lemmy and using the lemmy mobile app. Actually works great. Just set the view to ‘subscribed’ and ots very reddit like.

I don't really understand why he refuses to consider moving his app to Lemmy. He cites that he doesn't want to be in an administrative position but I don't really see why he'd have to be?

It'd be so nice to have a nicer mobile app for Lemmy, no offense to the jerboa devs, but I'm hoping sync decides to come to Lemmy.

Presumably he just doesn't know anything about Lemmy, and has misunderstood what people are asking of him. Let's see where things sit in a couple of months.

Exactly, Christian just had his project of the last 8 years ruined. To suffer a loss like that may take some time before considering a new project.

While this whole ordeal is getting visibility to Lemmy which is great, it’s also tiring. This is seeming like it will be a month long battle if not longer.

I don't see a battle here, personally. I think this is just a downhill slope to armagedon. We're watching Rome burn. We will likely see a continued increase of users flocking to Lemmy sites/nodes as more people become aware of what's going on and its impact. Reddit will get UGLY, possibly on an exponential slope,.

Pass the popcorn. This is going to be one hell of a show.

(don't get me wrong, it SUCKS. But we can't do anything about Reddit's foolish choices. We can only make the most of this opportunity for our new community here in the Fediverse. )

Hi, I’m one of those newbies. :) I figure why wait for the building to fall, get out while I still can. I would have never used the Reddit official app, but considered using it on browser still. Until I saw that too. And old.Reddit is very hard to read on mobile, and I’m 100% a mobile user. I hope with more users here more niche hobby spots will open up. :)

Same here! Took me a minute to figure out Lemmy but it’s not bad. Using Mlem on iOS and excited for the future.

Long time use of Apollo and just tried reddits app to see how bad it was…it sucks compared to all the Reddit apps I’ve used across iOS and Android.

I'm liking the Fediverse, and enjoying Beehaw/Lemmy/etc. I'm still learning this new world, but I'm loving it so far!

This is the way.

Well, that...plus popcorn.

well darn that's too bad, Apollo was my favorite reddit app because of it's accessibility with VoiceOver.
