Sorry if this is a dumb question, I can't seem to find the answer online. Is there any way for the users of an instance to see which communities have been blocked by the instance? I know we can see the instance blocklist, I'm interested in the community blocklist.

This isn't exactly a community ban list but it is a list of communities that have been removed.

https://lemmy.ml/modlog

Change the drop-down that says "All" to "Removing Communities".

Ah okay interesting, thanks. Am I thinking of it correctly that an instance can ban/block individual communities hosted on other instances? Or is the only option currently to block the entire instance?

The remove community action seems to work on local and remote (other instance) communities but I don't know if it also bans them.

I couldn't find it in the documentation and I don't have an instance of my own set up yet so I can't test it. Hope someone else is able to answer that last bit.

To see the list of all instances that have been blocked you can also scroll down to the bottom of lemmy.ml (your instance)and click on the instances tab to see any of the communities we have defederated from as well

As far as I know, there isn't actually a community blocklist. Instances can block other instances, but not specifically communities. If an instance is federated with another instance, all of the communities will be available.
