That pal in the thumbnail looks like someone on the Palworld team took a fan edit of an Egyptian themed lucario and specifically designed that pal to look just like it.
I would say almost all of them fall under the 'legally distinct but totally is' category.
The server I set up for my friends is named "Portable Creatures: Exhalation of the Wilderness" for a reason.
I read in steam reviews that the Dev is actually suspected to use genAi on Pokémon images to create their pal designs

Craftopia, the company's previous game, has been in early access for four years. I don't think this game is getting a release either.
Can confirm, ran fine on my desktop machine without needing to tinker (caveat: I changed the "compatibility layer" to use proton-ge before attempting to launch it of my own initiative).
I realize this is the linux gaming sub, but it's worth mentioning that this is on Gamepass too (I still use Gamepass on Xbox even though I don't game on Windows anymore).
Really wish I could run the Windows Xbox app on Linux
I kinda do too. It's nice having the option to play Gamepass games on PC or console. Some games are just more comfy on one than the other.
