I don't like the extra space used by the exFat that came installed on a USB drive, e.g. 213K photo files are 178G on ext4 and 228G on exFat. I'm archiving ~1M jpgs sized 200K on average.

It looks like size, i/o and recoverability may be better with ext4. Assuming 2 copies and no interest in OSX/Windows compatibility (except for possible recovery tools), what filesystems would you use for the two copies? Including ntfs.
