Is the WD Elements Desktop a reliable external hard drive to use as my main storage device?

I'm aware that it won't be as fast as an SSD, but I need a large amount of storage space for my work and an SSD would be too expensive.

I don't want to compromise too much on speed, so I'm wondering if the WD Elements Desktop would be a good option for me.

And what is the speed of it? Is it close to 5 GB?
