This is scare tactics to line up with Smith’s “Tell the Feds” bullshit.

Yes it’s cold - be safe and warm, but our system is fine.

Fine in what sense? I don't see this as a Danielle Smith problem but an Alberta problem created years ago due to deregulation.

We get brown-outs & black-outs often enough to make me believe our province dropped the ball on ensuring we have adequate capacity. Imagine if we all bought heat pumps and EV's... It would be 10x worse.

It's a Danielle Smith problem in that there's a chance she'll use it to try and score political points by somehow blaming the federal government for the problem.

But like you said, it's a problem that was created by the conservatives in the first place. Especially amusing now given that the current government put a stop to renewable energy projects near the end of the summer. Clearly they think there's a capacity problem given the message that went out today, but they're not interested in fixing it.

And if we all bought heat pumps and EVs then I guess they'd just have to upgrade the grid. I have to call out this point though because it's a talking point that some people use when wanting to ban EVs. It's some mythical tomorrow where literally everyone suddenly owns and is charging an EV vs. the grid as it stands today. Maybe the grid today can't handle literally everyone charging an EV, but that's an indication that maybe we should put some serious effort into upgrading it. Oh, but somehow the grid is just fine with all the new condos and infills and commercial developments that are constantly going up.

(sorry to rant, and it's not directed at you @[email protected] nor am I suggesting you want to ban EVs. I just had a frustrating exchange with some family over Christmas specifically about them wanting to ban EVs for that reason.)

I don't doubt she'll use anything to beat the Trudeau government with. She's insufferable as she is stupid.

I understand you're not ranting at me. I'm pro EV, heat pumps and nuclear but in order to fight climate change, we need to move towards more electricity and further away from fossil fuels. I doubt this province will stay ahead of the demand if many of us start this migration without the support of the government.

We're already seeing cracks in the system and my guess it'll get worse before it gets better.

I agree, and its so sad to see us continuing to move in such a terrible direction. Its extremely frustrating since I would rather stay here than move.

Hopefully we can all continue to stick by each other to fight this and find time for some joy and positivity as well. 🙂

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this. Yeah it's cold, but it's supposed to be cold this time of year!

It definitely is good advice to not use electricity all willy-nilly though. Like, at any time of the year. Consume less, in all aspects of life!

Totally agree!

Or you could look it up http://ets.aeso.ca/ets_web/ip/Market/Reports/CSDReportServlet

Im not a Smith fan but also don’t like people making things up based on their feelings.

Hi, I work in the industry. I’m aware of what that says as I’ve already seen it. I still stand by my statement.

I’m all for telling people to not to consume electricity unnecessarily. I’m also not going to sit by and watch her manipulate the province using fear.

Give Enmax or Epcor a call and ask their control rooms if they’re worried about it. ;)
