A BG3 player disappointingly failed their Honour Mode run thanks to Scratch deciding to go fetch at the worst possible moment.

I usually leave Scratch safe at camp. I am a Wizard, and I conjure elementals for the dangerous adventuring I do.

Right? He and the owlbear cub stay safely at camp, and I come back splattered with the blood and whatever bits I hacked off of the enemies I fought.

He doesn't need to see what I've seen.

Wait. You can get the owlbear cub to stay with you?

Yes, you need to not kill the cub in the cave and then talk to the cub at the goblin camp. The cub will approach you at your camp a few days after you've killed the goblin leaders.

I tried taking to it, but the goblin speaks instead and had me race the cub. When I talked to the cub during the race I could only convince them to attack the goblins, not talk him into losing the race (like I saw a steamer do)

So the cub died and that made me sad. Tried again, same result.

Weird. When i talk to the cub it always gives me an option after saying a few lines that he can go to my camp. He doesnt have to race. You can talk to him after refusing to race. You just talk to the gobbo first and then the cub afterwards.

Aha. I didn't try to not race the cub. The playthrough I saw, he raced it and managed to save it, so I thought I should do it that way.

Next playthrough though, I'll have owl cub for sure

Glad I could help. You’ll absolutely love the cub for the final fight. Dammon gives him a few gifts.

Also here is a tip I just remembered if you want to catch the cub during the chicken chase. Just go into turn based mode and you'll be able to catch him by dashing once.

Did you remember to put speak with animals on? Or maybe you have to speak to the cub after the gonlins are dead. I think i did it that way, i don't remember.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah I had speak with animals on, but not animal friendship

My dog reacts when Scratch appears onscreen. (Sometimes when my druid is a bear, too.)

I try not to use Scratch too much as a result. Also I don't like the yelp of a hurt dog.

I... Had no idea scratch could join your party lol. I thought he just stayed at camp.

He will sniff out buried treasure for you.

I prefer Shovel. Foul mouthed little shit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Shovel likes to do wicked stuff.

You have to have his ball in your inventory and you'll get an option to summon him. He can find buried treasure but is weak in a fight.
