What it says on the title. Mine was when I was 12 and I lived in a very haunted house which had some weird activity going on, like things moving out of place and pets freaking out. I was sitting in the computer, alone in the house, and suddenly I see a shadowy figure on the screen, just some meters away behind me, thinking was my mom I turned around and there was nothing, but the room had turned extremely cold suddenly. There was nothing behind me that could have been this shadow.

I saw a person materialize over my bed one night. It wasn't scary or anything, but I was fully awake, and saw a person standing in my room in front of me. She looked like a normal living person, dressed in modern clothing. She looked over towards me, and suddenly vanished into thin air.

I have questioned my sanity ever since.

I wish it were that simple! The thing is, I was awake, walking back to my room.

It... wasn't scary? I'd need new sheets.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I mean, it wasn't like I was looking at some horrific ghoul or something. She was pretty. I'm not sure if I witnessed a spirit, so much as possibly a non-gruesome teleporter malfunction.

She was standing in the air above your bed? Just trying to picture it properly.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I guess a better way to describe it was that she was at the foot of my bed. I was walking back into my room from the bathroom, and I see her in the moonlight. As she turned to look at me, she just faded into nothing.

I used to hear a man's voice in my head. Clear as day, like he was standing next to me. He'd say things to warn me, like "slow down" right before I tripped and broke my arm.

Haven't heard him in about 10 years, but I wish I still did.

There's this theory of a bicameral mind. Where a persons mind can have two separate entities. One is taking care of moving the body, eating, seeing etc. While the other is in the background thinking, giving advice etc. Some say it's another soul or god. I tend to think it's more of a survival mechanism that gets rarely used in the modern world. I think it's related to the third man phenomena.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I've always thought it was a part of my own intuition that expressed itself as clairaudience. Like, some part of my brain notice I was losing balance, and to get my attention it yelled at me.

Brains are complicated things. I used to believe in the paranormal, but now I'm not so sure.

I was about 11 and bicycling through a cemetery as the sun was going down. I’d gotten separated from my group, but I was really familiar with the cemetery and knew my way around well, so I was heading back to the exit to wait until I could rejoin the group.

The path I was on ran along the edge of the cemetery where there was a tall fence topped with barbed wire, the whole thing overgrown with ivy. On my left was an older part of the grounds, where there were some low tombstones from the 1800s and early 1900s. I was coming into the foot of a steep hill, so I was pedaling pretty hard and alternating looking down at the gravel path under my wheels and glancing up along the path and out across the open field to my left to see if I could spot any of the others.

I remember I was looking over at a specific tombstone over on my left, one of those tombs with the lamb statue on it that used to be traditional for young children. And I turned to look forward along the path when this pure white thing went right past me, close enough that I could have touched it if I had an arm out. It was upright, around the height of a short person, all white, no real defined features or shape that I remember. My first thought was a rollerblader (?) because there was no walking movement and the speed it was going. I whipped my head around to look behind me, and I couldn’t see the figure.

I don’t know where it could have gone. A person couldn’t have climbed the fence that fast. It was going pretty quick, but I was halfway up the hill and had a clear view along the path all the way to the front of the cemetery and there was no way it could have cleared that entire distance that quick. I looked out across the field to my left, and it wasn’t there either. There were a few headstones over there that could maybe provide cover like the lamb tombstone, but they were all either too small to hide behind or too far away to have gotten to that fast. I stopped my bike and was standing there, looking around, when I realized that whatever that thing was, it hadn’t made any noise. The path was gravel and even from where I was standing with one foot on the ground, I could hear the gravel crunching at even slight movements.

At that point, I started pedaling back up that hill pretty fast and got out of there.

I have another scarier one that took place over several months, but it’s hard to talk about.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I’m going to try to explain the scarier one. I’ve only told two people about this because I worry people will think I’m insane, but here goes. Sorry about length, it’s a hard story to explain.

It was around the time of the cemetery incident, maybe six months later, when this started. I was at church on a Wednesday night. My family was really religious, so I spent a lot of time there, and it felt as comfortable to be there as it did in my own living room. My parents had dropped me off early so they could get some errands done, but I didn’t care. I didn’t see anyone else there yet, but I headed back to my classroom for the night and was hanging out. I got bored after a bit, because there’s only so many times you can review your bible memorization homework. It occurred to me that I had been in the classroom across the hall that Monday and seen a bed of irises outside the window that were about to bloom, and I had wondered what color they were, so I walked over there to look.

The other classroom was set up lecture-style with a podium at the far side of the room next to the window and rows of chairs facing it. I went down to the window and was looking out - the irises had bloomed and they were that really dark purple color.

Suddenly, I knew I was being watched. And whatever was watching me, I was scared of it. All my hair stood up, and I felt like I couldn’t move. I don’t know how to explain it, but there was something sitting in the chairs behind me.

It felt like it took forever for me to be able to turn around, but it was probably only a few seconds. I looked at the chairs, and they were empty. But then, something happened and this is the hard thing to explain. It was like a filter dropped into place for me and I could “see” on a different level what was there, like a heat vision overlay, but with color. And it was terrifying. There was this large thing sitting there, arms crossed, looking at me. And I swear to God, it saw me seeing it, and it grinned at me.

I don’t know how I got out of there. I was so afraid of that thing and its long arms looked like they could grab me if I tried to get past along the aisle. I must have run. I ran back to my classroom and held my bible and prayed that it wouldn’t follow me. I couldn’t believe what I had seen, couldn’t even wrap my brain around it. Eventually I heard voices and other people coming to class and I realized I couldn’t tell anyone, they’d think I was a liar or making it up. So I tried to look normal and put it out of my mind.

I didn’t see it again for a while, and I was trying to forget about it. But one night, I was at the church alone early again, and I was walking back to my classroom when I saw it. It was hanging out in the lobby, and it was standing this time. It was so tall, and its arms were so long with these long fingers. And it saw me.

I was panicking, but the sanctuary was right there, and I thought, ‘sanctuaries are holy, whatever that thing is can’t come in there’ so I bolted in through the door and ran down to the altar. I turned around to look back toward the door, and saw it swing open as it walked in. It walked down a few rows and sat down by the aisle, looking at me.

And at that point, I was absolutely terrified. Whatever it was, it opened the door, so it was real. And it was in the sanctuary, so there was nowhere it couldn’t go. I was there for a long time, crying and shaking, but I eventually went up one of the side aisles and out a side exit and ran as fast as I could away from there. I waited outside the church for a while until I saw someone else from my class coming in and stuck close to them.

That thing started waiting for me every week. Sometimes in the lobby, sometimes in the hallway back to my classroom. I couldn’t tell anyone, because they’d think I was crazy or lying. I never saw it leave the building, so I think it was stuck there. It wouldn’t bother me if I was with other people, so I started only going places where there were other people. When I was alone, it would chase me, but it never actually touched me. But being near it filled me with this insane primal fear and I would feel like my heart was going to stop.

When I was 12, I was sent to a class at church to find out what my spiritual gifts were, and the pastor said that I had the gift of Discernment of Spirits. Depending on your denomination and church, that might be interpreted as anything from having a good sense of what a person is feeling and knowing the truth behind what they’re saying to a way more literal interpretation that you can see angels and demons. After that, I prayed so hard for God to take away my gift. Because whatever that thing was, I didn’t want to see it.

My family moved out of state when I was 13, so I don’t know if that thing is still there or if I can still see it. I don’t want to find out.

The Hatman. Weird phenomenon, cannot explain it outside of generic "pareidolia" approach, but definitely remember it to this day. That said, I never saw him when asleep like many/most. I was usually awake.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yup I have heard of it, still I do believe it is related to the shadow people phenomenon and not just one entity, I have seen shadow people as I described above, and non have had a hat. Also, can you describe some of these experiences? Sound very interesting o.o

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Sure thing. I was quite young, but I think it was multiple occurrences, none of them scary so I thought not too much of it.

I was often in our kitchen from which extended a hallway, my room was on the hallway left. It was a very small house, so every room was off the hallway lol. I often would be sitting at the table eating, at the end of the table. I would have my back-left side to the hallway, and my mother would always complain about unnecessary lights being on, so the hallway lights would be off although the kitchen lights on, and brought enough to light half the hallway. See the attached image. I'm making a better version now, but this shittier version will help with the layout for now. Lol.

Anyway, I would see this Dick Tracy type man watching me as I would eat or whatever, just inside the hallway and out of view of the others. I distinctly remember thinking, "Oh, he looks a bit of Dick Tracy." Which was strange, as I never saw a movie about him. Just felt like the right words. Now, I can say--Same coat. Same hat. Always just a shadow person. NEVER the evil red or white eyes reported by some others. No eyes whatsoever. Never aggressive. Never intimidating. Just... unsettling and cold to realize one is watching you... I do believe it to be the same entity multiple times. I was never sleep-- although as a funny side story, I once left some laundry in a pile in my bed when I was young and lazy, and when I woke up and looked at it, I thought it was Abraham Lincoln shaped in my sleepy state and got scared haha.

This happened occasionally until I aged. Fast forward to just this year, and someone I know on Mastodon posted about it. I watched a video, was shocked. I thought it was something my child brain had imagined. I'm not sure I even believe in ghosties. I'm agnostic. I couldn't even have an imaginary friend because it made me feel silly like I was obviously making it up and trying to fool myself (later this has been my experience with org. religion as well).

As I mentioned, hard to say it's not a weird... Shared pareidolic experience due to the nature of the human brain. Or maybe he's a System Admin making sure my code isn't buggy in the simulation we live in (why not?). But it fills me with wild curiosity that I've experienced such a weird phenomenon. I've never "seen a ghost" otherwise.

Regardless of the cause... It's fun to tell my new parent friends to ask their children if they've seen a hat man...

When I was 14 I lived in an old apartment complex in North Texas. One night I went to bed with my window open (2nd story). I woke up at like 2am to the sound of what, to me, sounded like a bird/cat mutant screaming on my window sill. It was probably a cat fight but I could never shake how INSIDE my room it sounded even though I was on the 2nd floor. No awning or trees close by either.

One day I was working from home when around lunch time I just had this feeling that something was wrong. I couldn't explain it, just a sinking feeling in my stomach. But it was more intense than any I had felt before or since.

The next day I get a call telling me one of my friends from highschool had died in a jet ski accident. The crazy part was they think he crashed around the time I had that sinking feeling, but he wasn't discovered until the next day.

Your experience is like before something bad happens, a fight, or something malicious or traumatic..you can feel the room change. Everyone has experienced this I think. It's like a vibrational domino effect rippling across the membrane of infinite frequency. Everything seems separated to us, but it's really just one thing.

When my cat died in my arms the other day I literally felt a weird energy wash through my hands up my body and out of the top of my head. I knew she had died. I looked down and she was gone. I cried and cried and all I could think was how beautiful and crazy life, any experience at all, is.

I'm kinda super into this stuff lol

I'm so sorry your loss. But I think you're onto something.

We put our dog down last year and my wife used to work at the vet, so a bunch of her former co-workers were in the room comforting her. She was laying there peacefully but when she passed I just knew it happened. I was like everything in room frozen for a moment.

I tearing up just typing this and it's been a year. So, I hope you are doing okay.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I'm doing wonderful, thank you. Those moments are ones I've come to appreciate. You don't get many in this life. The true beauty of living can only be felt.

I'm happy you got to feel that just now. It's really nice isn't it?

I've actually had a couple and I'll share a few at risk of sounding crazy.

  1. My friend was having a psychotic break, for lack of a better term. We picked him up, or rather snuck him out of the mental ward of a general hospital. Bad idea. Young. We were driving and the radio and windshield wiper/headlights were going on and off with his emotions. It was quite an experience

  2. Me my gf at the time were sitting in my car, messing with a nice analog camera. A huge huge huge gray moth that looked straight up like am alien came in and landed on my hand. The atmosphere was buzzing. We took a pic with the nice camera. The moth never showed up! I still have the picture and it's a really awesome picture. You can see all this weird light and color in the background and me just staring at my hand like an idiot lol

  3. This same girl shut the power off to a computer, and a bunch of studio gear cause she got mad. Same girl popped my shoulder out of my socket without touching me. She was very intense, and told me a black mass followed her around, hovering. I noped out of that one lmao

  4. I was doing some Astral protection late at night and had an encounter with SOMETHING. I started to try and "play" with them. A weird tiny white ball of yarn, very weird texture, fell in my lap like "no,we are playing with you, little kitten". When I left my room, all the cabinets and drawers were open in kitchen and bathroom. This one gave me the tingles. The beings were visible, at least in my minds eye, very much "there" compared to other instances. I can only describe it as "simple light".. like a technicolor swarm/blob in the room, shaping and reshaping itself. The buzz in the room was nuts, like a bunch of high frequency in my brain, not my ears.

Worked at a laser tag place and everyone always said the arena area was haunted never really thought much of it though. There was one night I was turning off the arcade games and the switches were located in the staff room next to a door leading into the arena. As I started to flip the switches the door knob started to shake up and down rapidly. I ran out of the staff room and saw the other two workers sitting at the front desk. No one was in the arena.

Another instance at the same job I was fixing something in the arena in the morning as the tech and I heard someone walking up a ramp to another level of the arena. Only other person there was the owner who was in his office at the time.

Always creeped me out but it was fun to give everyone else a good scare from time to time.

Once I was making out with my girlfriend, when the phone rang. I answered and the voice on the other side asked: "what are you doing to my daughter?" I told her and she said "my dad is dead". To this day I still don't know who might have been telephone.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh, c'mon, that's like the oldest meme ever and your interpretation is less funny. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/then-who-was-phone

[–] ubik 2 points 1 year ago

It's hard to be funnier than the original, sadly.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yo that's crazy! I've never had straight encounters with "spirits" of people. I have had pretty weird channeling experiences but that's a bit hazy and subjective . This one is straight contact lol.
