Dont just blame the referees. Adingra knew that the ball hit Colvill's face, still he appealed for a penalty. Sanctity of the game is a joke for players too with blatant simulation in every match. Now referees too are pitching in with their bit.

Refereeing has been bad for a while but this season has just been so much worse than anything before. Needs a complete overhaul with new people but I doubt we will get that.
And now right at the end Grealish versus Tottenham
I’m certain the decision in the Spurs/City game was because the ref blew for the foul immediately but play didn’t stop. He then had no choice but to pull is back.
That’s my take anyway!
TDLR: OP doesn’t know the rules of the game.
Because Simon Hooper is an absolute turkey. He always has a clueless expression on his face.

Not to mention 2 booked players for Bournemouth committing 2/3 more bookable fouls and staying on the pitch. Laughable referees these days they do it for bants I swear.
New lows? They literally messed up a call so badly they had to completely reevaluate VAR communications
A ref blowing the whistle too soon isn’t a new low.
The referee for the NewcastleU vs ManU was actually very good I thought.
The City one was a mistake (and I can admit that as a Spurs fan) but not a wrong decision. It was a foul and it was a booking for Royal because he cynically tried to bring Haaland down to waste time.
He's obviously got caught in two minds whether to pull it up then or not and has ended up getting it arse about face.
There is absolutely no guarantee Grealish would have scored though so City acting like it was a definite goal was the height of arrogance. Davies and Royal were coming round and Vicario is no slouch in these situations either.
Haaland should have been off with a three game ban for screaming abuse in the referee's face and continuing to scream and swear at him after. The bloke is an absolute twat and they need to come down on these things.
Outside of that one mistake the officiating during that match was outstanding. VAR was barely even needed. What is your standard then? Absolute perfection? That’s unrealistic
Don't worry, AI will referee matches soon.
The city call, while sucks is completely part of the game. The ref made a split second decision for advantage. You can’t have it both ways. There should be no mistakes with VAR but these on field calls are part of the game
It’s alright… they’ll say sorry tomorrow.
If the ref goes reverses a decision, game starts with drop ball => corner wasn’t given. Good application of VAR just an unfortunate rule that exists in our game. The City / Grealish decision was atrocious and pure FIFA scripting tho
Didnt see the final 20ish, we talking worse than our win against Liverpool?
Just expected to take the apology and believe in all seriousness that this is all just totally genuine incompetence. Nothing to see here. Same guy who did Spurs-Liverpool? Just a tragic coincidence.
Without even joking the referees are become more famous than the players and all for the very wrong reasons !!! VAR fuck me what a joke that is
These threads are hitting a new low every week let's be honest.
That decision by the ref in the city game was the clearest evidence of corruption there's ever been.
Refs can and do make shit and wrong calls all the time, they can hide behind plenty of things to justify shit decisions though or just flat out claim human error if it's particularly bad and nobody can really question it.
That one at city though there's literally no valid reason however suspect and unlikely that can be given for doing what he did other than corruption. He can be seen waving play on as city had the advantage, They then play the ball forward, Grealish is clean through and he then blows and brings it back for a city freekick. The only reason you can bring it back at that point is if there's no advantage, I'd say grealish being played clean through is a pretty fucking big advantage.
So far nobody can even begin to offer an explanation for it, there's a reason for that. There isn't one. It's clear as day there's something very suspect occurred there but it looks like it will get brushed under the carpet because pep hasn't in his words "done an arteta" and made a scene about it.
He really should have tbh its worth the pathetic FA fine he would have got to see how they explain this one.
When was the heyday of refereeing then?
OP You saved me making a post...
The whole rule making body from the refs, to VAR, to the 'law' makers, are simply fucking the game up with incompetent ref protectionism and sacrificing the game and players for tech and rules that dont work. VAR can't seem to understand the offside rule and adding so much extra time each game we now have a 15% increase in players seriously injured...
Nothing going on atm is improving the game in anyway at all.
I cannot find another explanation except corruption. That is the reason why PGMOL is heavily criticised.
Neither were particularly game changing decisions TBH. As crazy as it sounds, in justification of Hooper it’s a pretty isolated 1v3, Silva isn’t particularly outpacing any of those players and you could argue there isn’t an advantage to be played. Is it still a shaky call? Absolutely. But I do not think it’s as outrageous as anyone’s saying it is.
I was about to make another Man City joke, but then saw the highlights... that decision was a joke.. Hitting the crossbar like.2 times, missing a few chances, then that advantage call. Looks like the ref just wanted to end the game and go home XD
Wolves fans: First time?
Man City definitely had the controversial moment for officiating this match week. Still waiting for a week with no blunders.... Honestly, we need to stay on their backs about the standard of officiating. It really is killing the joy of watching the premier League at the moment.
It’s quite scary.. its every week theres a horror decision.
Every single week. I don’t believe it
They are under more intense scrutiny this season than anytime that I can remember. The pressure could be getting to them and leading to more mistakes.
You seem to believe that there is a magical country full of incredible referees who never make any mistakes. If you could point us in the direction of this fantastic place, it would be great appreciated
I understand your point, but I really cant remember there being so many huge ref mistakes last season. Sure, those happened. And minor mistakes will always happen. But this season we have huge blunders every single week, and I can't remember it being that bad before
Villa fans think the referee in our game was against them, but in reality he was just fucking garbage for both sides for different reasons.
How are they all so fucking bad? I genuinely don’t understand how the richest league in the world can’t find any competent referees.
He was bad both ways. Fucking awful officiating.
I genuinely don’t understand how the richest league in the world can’t find any competent referees.
They only employ English referees, that's why. Imagine the EPL with only English players. Yeah, that's the level of the EPLs refereeing
City being robbed of that advantage was one of the worst displays of refereeing I’ve seen in the epl. He had his hand up for advantage, grealish is through and then he blows the whistle? let me say that again, HE HAD HIS HAND UP FOR ADVANTAGE…. What the fuck was that?!?
A bit over exaggerated.
City have had hundreds of decisions go their way when they shouldn’t have during the pep regime. It’s about time a decision went against them.
The Brighton issue is he never should have called a pen to begin with.
It's a timely reminder to people calling for VAR to be scrapped that the alternative is actually giving these people more power to screw up matches.
For all its flaws, it is certainly better than no var.
The shit calls are still happening, VAR changes nothing except ruining goal celebrations and making everyone in the stadium stand and wait for three minutes anytime something happens.
VAR should be completely scrapped because it does nothing. Just in the week VAR spent ages getting a handball call wrong for a penalty in the CL - a timely reminder that VAR is still a ref watching an incident and making a judgement call.
VAR changes nothing
This post you're on literally disproves that. You see the penalty Brighton would have been awarded without VAR, how can that be worse than waiting a few seconds for a check to be done?
You're misunderstanding - VAR is still just a ref who will sometimes make bad calls. It changes nothing other than adding time to the game. It's just a ref in a different room with exactly the same potential for bad decision making. It was only a few weeks ago that Mike Dean said he didn't give a VAR call that he knew the ref had missed because he didn't want to make it difficult for his mate.
VAR will sometimes get it right, in the same way that an on-field ref will, so what's the point? VAR achieves nothing but slowing the game down and ruining goal celebrations.
This aside, Son has always owned Man City.
Wish he could own a trophy as well
His resillience will pay off eventually
In before the inevitable downplaying of a highly suspect decision (referee clearly plays advantage to City late on with the match level only to call the play back for the foul once a City player was put through on goal; all the TV pundits are baffled by the decision, as were the players) that went against City which, if it had happened to Spurs in the game, would have seen rival fans starting 100 threads to scream conspiracy.
Terrible decision in isolation, but I think City had a part to play in it. Earlier in the game the ref played a long advantage and City went absolutely mental at him for not just awarding the free kick. I think his head just went after that trying to second guess what they wanted.
The no corner for Brighton was the correct decision. The onfield decision was a penalty. It was overridden by VAR. Once you overrule the penalty, you have to give a drop ball back to the Defending team. I agree that it should have just resulted in a corner.
What you're saying basically is that the rules are shit. And I agree.
