Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

I'm looking for a portable device I can plug into my tablet/phone to watch movies while running on the treadmill.
I was going to go for a USB stick (Sandisk?) but saw a lot of comments complaining about the pendrives being notorious for overheating.
I'd appreciate some feedback/options on this!

If you have a PC, put the movies on there and download Plex. Easy to stream to the app on your phone

I believe the one I have for this purpose is a Sandisc double sided. It has usb c on one and usb A on the other. Never had any issues with it over heating. I use it during summer camping too to watch movies and shows while going to bed

Thats the exact one I was looking at. Ill stick to a 128 like people said and get a new one when it fails. Thanks!

Flash drives are the modern day floppies. Use them and when the fail, get a new one. Stick with the smaller sizes for the best price per GB.

I have used these: https://www.crucial.com/products/ssd/portable-ssds
They work great.
I also have a few m.2 nvme/sata enclosures.
I like this one the most - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08RVC6F9Y
I basically just reuse old m.2 SSDs in them and they are functionally the same (and potentially more reliable) as the portable SSDs you can buy.
