A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

DONT GIVE THEM IDEAS 😭😭

A7x - they charge by the frame and you basically rent it.

A trivial software feature that you can "license" for $150. Disgusting.

Panasonic and Canaon have both done this before with LOG profiles.

More like Pony… up that money sucka!

If idiots would stop buying things like this then companies wouldn’t even try pulling this shit

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Jesus Christ, are they going back to sell us phone ringtones like in the early 2000?

This feature should be free on a fucking $2000+ camera

This is making me rethink my desire to upgrade to an a6700, but there really is no lens out there quite like the Sony 70-350mm on APS-C.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Sometime next year you need to pay for autofocus. Oops you ran out of credits to focus!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I’d pay that for a fucking bulb timer, or even more for shutter speeds like Fuji give us.

I hate everything about how camera functionality is going to end up being a bunch of menu choices you have to subscribe to.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

My prediction is that by 2030, people (not me) will be paying monthly just to use the camera they paid full price for. Subscription based mandatory operating software and or monthly shutter click limit. Or maybe they’ll require a 60$ yearly fee for using non Sony lenses lol. Excited to see the next generation of uniquely creative greed! God has abandoned us lol

Paid firmware updates are the death knell. But even beside that… $150?!?!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

If HP ever makes a camera, I bet there's gonna be a subscription for Shutter presses.

"100 presses for $25/mo"

It's a very niche feature for professionals. Why are people so worried about this. Most likely a patent troll wanting paid for the ability to offer the feature. People ask for it, so they're giving an opportunity to pay for it......Did Sony charge for the A1 update too? Did I miss that?

Bro I feel like in 20 years, breathing will be behind a paywall

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t mind if the camera is free

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Give me screen protector, packing tape and a sharpy, I will do it for $5.

They see all the Sony owners paying for skins on the outside of the camera and figured they could get in the action with skins and DLC inside the camera I guess.

People are wired weirdly. If they'd not offered this feature at all, people would be content. Now that they're offering it but for money, people are super upset.

I do agree it's a somewhat weird thing to do: they're very likely not going to make bank with a feature that very few people would want (out of those who even bought the a7IV) and even fewer of whom would pay for it. So why make it something you pay for at all? The negative reaction was absolutely inevitable, whereas a "hey, here's something cool our cameras can do now" might have been a positive PR move.

Yea because it's not about the feature, it's about paid firmware updates in general
