Never a pen, you can’t justify this fuckery
Football / Soccer / Calcio / Futebol / Fußball
And this is why the beautiful game has become a joke
A player being punished for that especially after the ref sees the video
like OK man just flip a coin next time, what's the point?
What is the defender supposed to do?
Dude the ball is traveling away from the goal, it's close range, goes off his chest first....what the absolute hell!? Soccer has been so shite this year for refs.
Same situation refereed completely differently by the VAR in the same game. The ref shouldn’t even have had to take a look at the Tino one because the outcome should have been no penalty after a couple of reviews.
Handball all day
Never a penalty. Absolutely ridiculous call and some home cooking in Paris
I was rooting for Newcastle. Then this happened. Absolutely horrible.
4.5xg for PSG, not quite robbery
Also have about 2 PSG players in the box/D when he hits it. Should have retaken it.
Time to act like a geordie and make up 45 reasons why this was a Penalty 🙂
we're not getting the ref comms on this call, are we? 😂
u/SaveVideo
Absolute disgrace . The fact that this penalty could prevent Newcastle from qualifying To R16 is disgusting.
jesus christ this is horrible. Defenders need to get together and demand change. This is lunacy.
Reece James did the exact same thing in the 2021 UCL final and no penalty was given. Inconsistencies everywhere…
It’s funny how the same game is played with different rules every day.
Ref will probably end up chopped into pieces after the match.
The handball rule/decisions in Europe are fkn whack. Only a matter of time before this happened at a truly consequential moment
Man United - Copenhagen was a wild match but neither of those ‘should’ be hand balls if common sense is involved. Can’t remember the others off the top of my head but I’ve disliked pretty much every handball call I’ve seen in the CL this season
the sooner we run out of oil the better.
A bit tiring to see the same comment over and over : intent does not matter, hitting another part of the body does not matter : read rule 12 it's easy to find (I just did because I thought the other body part was in the rule as well : it's not it's just a PL thing).
I do agree it's harsh but the first handball earlier in the 2nd half should definitely have been given so in my biased opinion, it evens out.
Last thing, if I ever want someone to take this penalty, it's Kylian. The lad just seems unfazed while 40k people are shitting themselves in the stands.
Qatar gets a dodgy call versus Saudi Arabia. Oh no... Anyway
P$G
this is one of the worst referee decisions I've ever seen! What the hell is the point of VAR when you have multiple angles showing the ball came off the chest? what is the argument here? that the arms were extended? criminal if I must say.
Tinfoil hat on REEKS of corruption.
Man seeing him celebrate a 98th minute equaliser against us - and this XI specifically - his hilarious surreal shit.
Absolutely not a penalty
rigged
Insane
I gotta say as a neutral I thought there’s no way I could get a good result out of this match but boy was I wrong.
If anyone’s played the game you literally can’t do anything with your arms there. Absolutely shocking call.
Merry christmas!
A lil’ push for the almighty P$G; never a fucking penalty 😔
Why do football fans know the rules better than the referees?? It's really concerning.
The game of which oil money are we afraid of more lmao.
vell dun boyz, dobra procez
So to try to understand what the thought process was a bit more I went to IFAB, and technically the « chest to arm » scenario isn’t covered.
The closest we have is this :
a player heads/kicks the ball and it then hits their own hand/arm? This is not handball (unless the ball goes directly into the opponents’ goal or the player scores immediately afterwards, in which case a direct free kick is awarded to the other team).
This might seem like semantics but maybe the fact it’s not covered is why he went with it ?
Either way it shouldn’t be a thing, a player simply cannot control or predict where the ball is going in this situation. It’s just too unfair to give a penalty for that.
As shit of a decision as it is, it is correct under current UEFA handball guidelines
The amount they favour the attacking side is a slight pisstake
So unfair, but then being owned by a state is also unfair in the larger context
Abolish pens (for obviously non deliberate handballs at the very least)
That penalty probably puts PSG through. Absolute fuckery to give that
The UEFA interpretation of the handball law is just awful. No one that has ever played football before could think that should be a penalty
Defender clearly used his hand as a weapon to attack the ball, good process boys
Qataris money > Saudi money
Never a pen but I guess you have to just accept the refs decision and move on. Surely Eddie Howe agrees.
Terrible decision. Not a penalty.
Shocking decision. But love the absurdity/hilarity of the reaction to this decision by BT commentary team vs Sky and Gary Neville during the Newcastle Arsenal.
I'd never heard the word stooping used with such authoritive and nuanced technicality.
Truly awful decision and I’m a Boro fan…
The handball rule is so fucked, so many results are decided because of it and it’s spoiling the game.
Stupid rules aside, how can that be intentional? Ball hits his chest then arm, blasted at him from a yard away, how is it fair in general to give a penalty in that scenario? If the cross went in from dembele, the direction of the ball is going to the edge of the box, Newcastle had about 6 or 7 players back, what’s the xG of that? 0.01? Versus giving a penalty which has an xG of 0.8 maybe?
Shambles from the ref and VAR, happening way too often.
Only way that's a penalty is if you're playing against Wolves in the prem
they waved off the one from Miley but then give this one? Handball rule is truly fascinating
