I'm a 17-year-old senior in high school right now. I'm currently taking pre-calculus and plan on studying calculus in college so that I can eventually teach it.

Does anyone know if either pre-calculus or AP calculus are taught in Danish high schools (gymnasium)? If either subject is taught in high school, I'd like to teach there.

My other option is to teach calculus on the college level, which I don't mind, but I would have to further my education in order to become a professor.

This also might be a stupid question or sound like I'm disconnected, but are any school courses besides English taught in English? I'm learning Danish, but I know I'd have to learn a lot of technical language, especially considering that it's math.

Tak! :)

Thank you for the explanations!

Someone else has said that it would be difficult to be accepted to a school without teaching experience. Does the pedagogy program help in any way to essentially "verify" my capabilities as someone who is looking to teach?

You can only do the pedgagogy program (pædagogikum) if you have a permanent employment at a gymnasium

Does permanent employment include being a teacher? I feel like it would be weird getting the pedagogy program after being at the school already.

With permanent employment, I meant a permanent teacher position at a school. It’s quite hard to get a permanent position, so it can take years before you’re actually “eligible” to the pædagogikum

How do teachers learn to teach, then, if it's done after they already have a teaching position??

You with you’re sensible questions.

They generally don’t, instead working as a “yearly temp” (årsvikar)

I'm not understanding how the pedagogy program works. When do you enter this program during your teaching journey??

Yes, part of the pedagogy involves being guided by experienced teachers and evaluating your performance. You can think of it as something that will fundamentally allow you to transition from a mathematician to a math teacher.

Ok, that makes sense! Thank you. :)
