Then you get Portuguese speakers with the [tʃ] allophone adapting all those words with [tʃ] into [ʃ]. And the ones with [ti] into [tʃi]. Like:

  • EN ⟨chip⟩ → PT [ʃipe]~[ʃipi]
  • EN ⟨team⟩ → PT ⟨time⟩ [tʃime]~[tʃimi]

All the time. Like, there is [tʃ], but if the word is spelled with ⟨ch⟩ people won't bother!
