I recommened to put it into the freezer, it's better cold and it doesn't freeze solid. And yes, you normally sip it from a shotglass or shot it (or half and then a half later)

Depending on if it’s aged or not. Aged akvavit should be served at room temperature to appreciate the more subtle flavors. Aged should be served very cold.
