Hi everyone!

Thought it would be suitable to post this thread today. I assume there's a number of others like it, but my Danish is still very modest, so...

Being a driving factor in my family's decision to move to Denmark, and also being a father to a girl, equal rights were a big factor in why we chose Denmark as a place we'd like to move to. Having seen what being pregnant meant for my wife (having to stick to a horrible job just cause she was guaranteed she wouldn't be laid off for taking her maternity leave), it's a matter I feel for on a very personal level.

So in hopes of learning more about Denmark before we manage to move, I'd like to know how equal rights and opportunities function in real world in Denmark? I know Denmark's been in the company of countries that have full women's rights for a long time now (currently only 14 countries I believe), but I think it's this very sub I've stumbled upon a post a few months ago about a girl who finished a (traditionally male) trade school and then got ridiculed by her colleagues when she started working.

I don't doubt Denmark is on a whole other level compared to Croatia where we are from, but I wonder how the traditional views have really changed over the years and how equal women in Denmark really feel on day to day basis?

Thanks and enjoy your day!

I disagree, i would say women have equal rights to men i Denmark, but since you say it could be better, Im curious, which rights do men have, which a woman does not have?

...Equal pay would be a perfect place to start. ...Free abortion (and no, we don't have free abortion) ...That women of childbearing age had as easy a time getting hired as everyone else. ...Fewer women being killed (by men) ...Fewer women being subjected to violence and sexual assaults (by men) ...Equal distribution of women and men in positions of power.

...and there are many other things on the list.

Equal rights is not the same as equal outcome.

All thoose things u listed is the equallity of outcome, not the lack of equal rights, so imma try again, what rights do a man have in Denmark, which a woman does not?

If we had equal rights/upbringing/society there would be equality of outcome (roughly). There is a difference in having equal rights and having equal opportunities. Just because women have the right to be sterilised doesn't mean that they have that opportunity in practice. Many doctors won't perform this type of surgery because "what if the woman finds a man who wants kids". And I don't think I need to explain how that is sexist.

There isnt equal of outcome between men not even twins, why do u Think there would be equal outcome between sexes when we all are so different, thats just stupid.

It is still possible for a woman to get sterilized, the process is a little longer, but they do have the right.

So come on, give me a right a man have which a women does not here in Denmark.

Many women can't be sterilised because her future man apparently gets a say.

And of course there is a difference between 2 people, but if you look at the grand picture equal opportunity would bring equality of outcomes because your gender doesn't affect your ability, since they are social constructs.

The idea that equal opportunity wouldn't bring equal outcome, is sexist and right wing propaganda, designed to divide and conquer. It's us Vs them mentality.

many women can’t ve sterilised because her future man apparently gets a say.

Not true, every woman over 18, who lives in Denmark, has the right to be sterilized.

Equal of opportunity will NEVER EVER bring equal outcome, because the sexes are so different. Women has the same opportunity to be brick layers, oil rig workers etc yet less than 1% decide to do so, our bodies are build different so no matter what you do, u won’t get a 50/50 in every field.

And equal outcome is NOT the same as equal rights, so tell me again what rights does a man have which a woman does not!

You really don't listen. yes they have the right. But in practice doctors refuse to uphold that right. Get it through your thick skull. We also have a right to be safe from rape and violence but women and men are still victims of that.

"Actually they have the right"☝️🤓

Prove it? Tho yet again not a right/opportunity but an outcome. Because they do indeed have the right.

we also have the right to be safe from rape and violence but women and men are still Victims of that.

Sadly yes, but yet again you come with outcomes. which Im not asking for, Im asking for rights.

I am Well aware that we do not have equal outcome, which wont ever happend and would be stupid to seek, because the only Way to achive equal outcome is by Force and not freedom, u wont get 50/50 nurses without Force, nor doctors, laywers, mechanics etc etc…

You're just screeching the same tired old nonsense about "equal opportunity does not mean equal outcome", failing to understand that what you describe as "men and women want different things" is not a result of any sort of inherent biological drive, but existing patriarchal systems that nudge men and women on to certain career paths.

Do u think if we just treat a women and men 100% the same, the outcome would be equal, out of the blue we will suddenly see a equal outcome in highly physical work like oil rigs, mining, brick layers etc?

Equal opportunity and equal outcome is most certainly not the same, and it is impossible to achieve both simultaneously.

StalinsLeftTesticle_ at 2024-03-09 12:18:08+00:00 ID: ku27psm

No, it won't happen out of the blue, it's a long process.

Also the jobs you mentioned make up less than 1% of the jobs, the overwhelming majority of jobs are not particularly physically demanding, and even the ones you mentioned should not be so physically demanding that women wouldn't be able to do them.

Also, come on, I've seen brick layers, most of them aren't exactly in good physical shape lol

Doesn’t matter if they make up Less than 1%, if you want equal outcome, it should be everywhere, and I think physical skilled work makes up more than 1%.

A long process u say, so women wil get more bone density and muscles to be able to do that work equal to men, if we just treat them the same? Interesting, any evidence to back that up?
