Have a look at Vampire Survivor. I know it’s free on iOS, the base game is available and I think from memory there’s much not in the way of ads.
Cons is that it might eat up more of your time than anticipated.

Also going to point you to Phoenix 2 if you like short little space vertical scrolling shooters.
No ads unless you want revives or extra credits.
I still have Flight Control, Plants Vs Zombies, Peggle, Fieldrunners, and Jetpack Joyride from those early iOS days. I even paid $1.19 for some (maybe all?) of them.
Lucky! I’d be happy to pay for games like those, but as once off, not ongoing in app. However market forces seem to be that this is not profitable compared to ads or ongoing in app purchases. Pity.

Short session plays that renew daily with no ads unless you want extra revives or credits.
Also reccomend Vampire Survivor - garlic aura item is awesome, can never not take it
I’m going to have to do a run with the garlic sometime, I’m quite partial to the tome myself and lightning.
Need to play more as well since I haven’t unlocked much.
