I've been interested in using twitter for a while, but don't really like the site. Now after joining the fediverse I want to give mastodon a try. Any recommendations for some cool people to follow? (lemmy.world)

One thing I didn't realize when I first started using mastodon is that you can follow hashtags. I started there and then followed people that posted things I found interesting.

I also tried to follow big news sites and sports hoping that they'll see people clicking through from mastodon.

I know that doesn't answer your question exactly but hopefully it's useful in some way.
