Tell someone in Perth that you're from Denmark and thus don't go to the beach a lot back home and watch their brains go into overdrive

My partner is Danish, I’m Australian AND from Perth. Whenever he tells people here that he’s from Denmark, they go “oh yeah, I used to live in the caravan park” or “oh do you know so and so who lives by the river” etc. it’s more hilarious because his accent is THICK Danish but it still doesn’t cross their minds that he’s talking about anywhere else but Denmark, WA.

How old is your partner? My wife is Danish and has been organising Danish catchups as of late if he's feeling homesick with the lack of Danish banter. We live NOR.

Yea I'd literally say "I'm from Denmark, the country" and they'd still say something about how they used to go there on holidays there and loved the beaches down south. Like noooo, I just told you. Love that they just ignored the accent though haha

You should say Denmark in Europe. Saying "the country" can be interpreted as meaning 'outside of a major city'. "Yeah I'm from the country" type vibe. My wife is Danish and we live in Perth, so this is what we had to settle on after a few attempts.

Yea na, didn't make a difference, unfortunately. Tried all of them. "The country north of germany", "the country next to Sweden", "the country in Europe", "the country, not the one down south", "the country in Europe, not the town down south". None of them worked. Got used to just saying Denmark and then specifying after they'd said something about the town

Ultimate proof that you've lived in Australia, if anyone doubted it!
I do like watching people's gears turn in those sports of conversations. It's in the family of "oh you're from Denmark!? My friend is Dutch!" Two entirely unrelated pieces of information by you can sort of see how they landed there, and at the end of the day, it is just nice that people take an interest.
