The most common way to explain ghosts is by saying someone can't exist because they're so scared of hell that they want to kill them.
When the person is scared of hell, then ghosts are supposed to disappear. When the person is scared of hell, then ghosts are supposed to come back to haunt the person. This means they can't be destroyed.
What if you're scared of hell because it's more likely you see the afterlife?
That's the one with the "they can't exist because they want to kill them" part. In both cases, I'm not sure it's really true. This is not to say that the demons are omnipotent.
