My city painted lines in the road, and people still bitch about it 3 years later, the lines are almost gone from fading and chipping, and cycling is still dangerous due to some traffic specifically targeting them for harrasment.
Paint is not a substitute for infrastructure.
Yeah, there's an especially shitty part of a city where used to live, that part is always mostly traffic jams and the bike lanes painted on the road side are just used as a parking lot for expensive cars 🤦♂️
