Home automation is the residential extension of building automation.

It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

I have some outdoor festoon/string lights plugged into a basic smart plug in an outhouse and I'm able to connect to the smart plug with my phone and turn the lights on and off. However I'd like a switch inside to control it too.

What are my options here? I'd like to avoid a hub if possible because I don't see myself having other uses for it. I found some that have a plug and a wall switch that connects to it wirelessly but none that can also be controlled via an app.

Thanks

Does the outhouse still have wifi coverage?

Yes it's only 2ft away from the house

Devices on tasmota firmware can link directly to each other using device group without setting up any automation/hub.

Can't find any shops selling preflashed ones for the switch in UK (online at least)

Budget wise there's:

  1. Localbytes plug

  2. Shelly Plus mini
