It used to make financial sense to operate at a loss for years to build a position of excessive market dominance before you start trying to make money off your users...

Rising interest rates have, I think, ended this; every business has to make money now. Being cash flow positive matters once again, even in tech.

It is forcing a lot of businesses to pivot and restructure. The economic fallout of the last few decades is coming back. Even 2008 was never really solved, so much as papered over with TARPs.

Can we kick the can again? Perhaps, and perhaps not. It might be better not to try, but that is not for us to decide.
