Also, why don't you have redundancy for you allegedly precious files?

You write this and it doesn't cross your mind that this is the reason why it's worse for non professionals as there is a smaller chance of a backup being available ....

Debits and credits reside in the mind not in files.

And if you really think your financials are that big of a deal, there's always data recovery services.
