During this whole conversation you can kinda see Messi being starstruck a little bit.

Yeh I mean in the first few seconds you already see he's smiling way more than just a regular interview.

I mean look at 0:18 of the interview lol. He didn't have a bigger smile winning the Ballon d'or

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

At this point he’s probably won the Ballon d’or more times than he’s met Zidane.

Winning Ballon d'Or < Meeting Zizou

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

I mean after winning it for the 8th time, it probably just doesn't make him as happy as it used to.

having a sit-down and nice chat with Zizou is much more unique to Messi than winning another Balon Dor at this point lmao

Zidane apparently has a certain aura and presence that people really feel when around him. Not even necessarily due to his skills as a player or his status in society. I think even if he had been a regular average joe he would be one of those people that exude leadership and confidence.

So there’s a good chance Messi is under that spell even if he sees himself as equal or superior.

That's just called charisma. And yes, even on screen you can see he has loads of it. Could have ran for political office in another life if he hadn't been so good at football.

He's dead sexy and has sort of resting, "I am very displeased with this situation" face. Also, of course, a god of the game.

Plus, Messi is rather shy and easily becomes bashful in social situations, especially ones where he is the focus, and they are going to talk about how great he is. You'd think he'd get used to it, but he never seems to. When he went up to get his award for the FIFA Best Player in January, and the audience kept applauding he said, "you're making me more nervous."

you can kind of see it in pictures alone. tons of charisma

Zizou the king.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

You’re basically saying Zidane is a giga chad

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Most revered Frenchman. Even more than any of their presidents.

If he ever ran for office he'll have a damn good shot

I always thought the ones who have that kind of aura are Zizou, Seedorf, Xabi Alonso, Pirlo, and Henry.

I think it was Mascherano who said: "The thing about Messi is that he doesn't realize he's Messi."

He's just a player, a football fan, like any other who would be in awe of Zidane.

The other funny thing is that Messi is getting the point in middle age where he doesn't seem so much younger than Zidane anymore. They were still playing at the same time at some point.

They both look super star struck lmao. Zidane awkwardly sitting up every time he talks and messi stuttering every other word. The whole thing was weirdly wholesome

Feel like Zizou is the player that undoubtedly makes even the best footballers feel star struck. He has been a great asset to Real Madrid's recruiting. A lot of their big signings have pointed to his phone call playing a huge role in their decision.

Even Becks mentioned in his documentary how much he loved the moment when Zizou planted the seed in his head and that's a player who had easily the biggest brand name in sport at that time.
