China has the advantage of not having to care about the citizens' desires in regards to be relocated to make the rail possible.
They also provide apartments to live in permanently for those displaced in the development.
Meanwhile, the US has not built high speed rail and has tent cities.
In the case of national infrastructure, China wins hands down.
Although it's kind of ridiculous to compare California with an entire country...

That's a fair assessment.
Except it is considered "unamerican" for government to help people, and tue generosity of billionaires is hoped for instead
China doesn't help it's people. The American government has plenty to be criticized for, but the implication that the Chinese government works for the people is mind numingly stupid.
China has about 2 million homeless people and that's on the very low end. This is despite the country having over 1 BILLION vacant houses.
Also Chinese infrastructure is a meme on every front. The materials are incredibly cheap, there's little regard for safety standards, and they're built without factoring in feasibility or usefulness. China built a lot of infrastructure very fast to boost it's GDP, and while that worked for that purpose, they're now saddled with a lot of debt and a lot of maintenance costs for a lot infrastructure that nobody uses. China isn't like Japan or Germany where the infrastructure is well built, well designed, and placed in the areas where it makes the most sense. The idea of Chinese efficiency is a myth.
They dont have a billion vacant homes. China has 65 million vacant houses. It's enough to house 1.4 billion people.

The US still has things like reelection to consider with these things. China doesnt. And if someone speaks up against the government they just get arrested
