Dunking on Tankies from a leftist perspective.

A tankie is someone who defends/supports authoritarian or even totalitarian regimes who call themselves "socialist". The term originated from people supporting the 1956 invasion of Hungary by the Soviet Union. Nowadays they are just terminally online, denying genocides, and falling for totalitarian propaganda and calling such regimes "true democracies". remember to censor usernames when necessary.

They probably are, considering the context. Attacking a music festival is far away from attacking a place where the Israeli government bulldozed Palestinian homes so that hard line Israeli citizens could take it over; why bring up "settlers aren't civilians"?

While I don't at all condone indiscriminate attacks against innocent people, I can also sympathize with the frustration when Western foreign powers say "Here, go set up your ethnostate on this piece of land which we don't really have the authority to give you, and where people already live. Oh, and if those people already didn't like you, they're going to really not like you now. You're going to treat them as second class non-citizens? Sure, we'll look the other way. By the way, this land is not only really important to your religion, it's also really important to two other major world religions, and none of you like each other very much at all. What could go wrong?"

Russia is invading Ukraine, and it is undoubtedly right to be on the side of Ukraine working to eject them. The state of Israel just appeared one day, and has been pushing and shoving Palestinians ever since. Killing innocent people, parading prisoners through the streets - that's not the way to fight back. But I cannot fault Palestinians for wanting to fight.

Man, I'm not pro-Israel. I'm not even pro-Palestinian pacifism. I've gotten accused of antisemitism numerous times in the past because of my vitriol against the state of Israel and its apartheid regime.

In any case, Hamas are a bunch of shitheads, and this attack was just another data point on it. Collateral damage I understand - but there's no excuse for targeting random civilians. Of course, Hamas doubtlessly knew it would escalate things - how better to continue the conflict which keeps them so entrenched? And of course, what a boon to the Israeli far-right it is as well.

What a shitshow.

if anything, Hamas has done us the favor of NOT considering their side with these warcrimes. Palestine/Gaza needs to find new leadership, these fucks saw the warcrimes in Ukraine by russia and said "ooh let's try that, it'll win friends!"

the only friends they're winning over are Iran and Russia.

Fuckwits.

All apologies if it sounded like I was painting you as something you weren't. That was not at all my intention. It sounds like we're both on pretty much the same page. Shitshow, indeed.
