Apple has refused to provide the calibration tool for the sleep sensor to independent repair people. A German repairman has beaten Apple and developed a calibration tool.

Is linux good on Mac at all, even better perhaps? Though I've heard they don't have the same compatibility with M1 macbooks yet.

I'm not sure, I haven't really looked into it. They are pretty popular and have been around for a while at this point though, so I wouldn't be surprised if there have been some good developments there
