Rest day from exercise for me today and thank goodness too. I caught a chill at work yesterday. There's a big roller door that's kept open during the day for deliveries, and even though it's got heavy plastic strips hanging there, that freezing cold wind was whipping straight in. I was working at a prep bench right near there. I started to feel the impact of that fall I had a couple of days ago too and mopping the floor became like an uphill battle of exhaustion. Then by the time I was on the bus coming home I'd started violently shivering.
Woke up during the night and I was freezing and everything hurt and I could hardly move. Managed to get back to sleep after putting on an extra layer of clothes, beanie and hoodie, and took some pain killers. And cranked the heater up. Feel a lot better this morning just exhausted.
Edit: got to talk to the boss about closing that door during the day when it's like that, even though it's a huge inconvenience for everyone. Also, can anyone recommend any reasonably priced hoodies that are actually warm? A lot of them seem so cheaply made and aren't actually warm, just a layer (like the one I was wearing unfortunately).
Is it an option to wear a men’s hoodie? A lot of the time women’s clothes are a lot thinner and crappier for the exact same thing.
If you don’t overheat in them maybe you could also try some thermals or woolen spencers, or a belly band. There are also heated vests made for warehouse workers
You're right you know; I wear men's trackies because in general I found they're warmer, better made and cheaper. So I wouldn't have a problem wearing men's hoodies.
I hate the men's vs women's clothing quality thing so much. It's so prevalent in work wear as well. Sadly by having a rather "womanly" figure men's clothes usually feel like arse on me.
"It's so prevalent in work wear as well."
It really is! I really noticed when I decided to buy nonslip steel caps for work.. the women's ones had pink details (because that's so important🙄) but were obviously not as well made, and as for the "nonslip" sole.. guffaws derisively
Omg, work boots are the WORST. I have two pairs of She Wears from a while ago and they're better than most but still not great (granted, I have disproportionately thin ankles). No way I'm wrecking my feet with poorly fitting, overly heavy men's boots or shit quality women's boots that were clearly an afterthought.
In this case, being a largish person with ankles like tree stumps and feet like boats is actually working in my favour for once! Although I still lament not being able to even try on most of the adorable and petite women's shoes I see sighs
It sucks. They’re mostly too big for me or it would be open season. Boy’s clothes are better for that but you still have to try them on
It's the cut that gets me. Fits around the boobs - shit around the shoulders and arms. And vice versa. Same with bum/waist ratio. Mind you, lots of women's clothes that have this issue too.
I hate him already!
Maybe pair the hoodie with a long sleeve thermal top?
Need to buy some thermals, good idea. Mine are all a bit worn out.
FWIW I often wear two hoodies.
That's what I'm wearing right now, they're getting a bit thin and old.
The best hoodie I have is actually a merch hoodie from Inner North Brewing Company. I get cold so damn fast when I'm still, but that hoodie is amazing; only needs a shirt or longsleeve underneath and I'm super toasty when standing still.
They dont seem to have them on the website anymore, but if you like I may head there later today and can check sizes and prices for you?
Thanks, that'd be great!
Easy! I'll send you a message tonight/tomorrow with the info :D
Would you consider a puffer jacket with a hood? The loft insulates very well and does better against wind in my experience, compared to hoodies. Although, ones that are very warm and also not bulky can be pricey.
I have to be able to fit an apron over it, but that might be an idea.. I do need a new puffer jacket though, I wore my last one until it literally started falling apart!
I used to try and wear hoodies and layer up when doing field work, but I'd never feel as warm as when I had just a thermal and a good puffer jacket on. I'd often wear a hi viz jacket over the puffer so I think an apron is doable...
Nice, I'll check out some puffer jackets and thermals as well. It makes me realise how much I've neglected my wardrobe: as things have worn out or fallen apart I haven't replaced them.
