for desktop user apply spicetify that way you can install themes/app/extension to spotify client.
one such extension is to block ads, you wouldn't still be able to download songs without premium, but you will not see banner or hear ads.
for downloading song use other tools for that, ex. spotDL
if your interested, i've written a script that downloads mp3 and synched lyrics, translate it (jap to romaji, Kor to romaja, Chi to pinyin) on currently song that is being played to spotify client
