You can get antiviral tablet from the chemist which works pretty well if you take it early in the cold sore stage.
I've heard about this. Do you need a prescription, what do you ask for if not? I think I'll be fine but just in case.
No prescription needed, over the counter at chemist. Ask for cold sore antivirals. Even if you don’t need them this time, good to keep in hand if you have an outbreak in the future, because timing is important for them to work. Needs to be as soon as possible when symptoms start.
