Not entirely identical, but I know what you mean.
I was on long release dex combo (Adderall) for a while and it gave me the “drive” like you mentioned. But it screwed with my sleep and I had to get away from it since I reacted badly to the fillers in generics. I also found certain formulations wore off fast and left me with the infamous “ADHD crash” and made my afternoons and nights miserable. This is down to individual brain chemistry, though.
On a long release Ritalin now and my brain is quiet too. I don’t necessarily get the “reward” from starting or finishing tasks and have to push myself to initiate but once the process is started I’m okay.
For comparison unmedicated the whole thing is like walking through glass barefoot and soaking my feet in lemon juice after.
You might be able to get a dual script, depending on where you live. Like have Dex first thing in the AM, then short acting Ritalin later in the day to keep even. Only way to know is to ask your psych.
Yeah I plan to ask at my next review. But that's a little while down the track. My prescribing Dr might be able to though
