Zaur Gurtsiyev, a Russian military officer implicated in the devastating airstrikes on Mariupol’s civilian population during the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, has been killed in a grenade explosion in Stavropol, southern Russia. The incident, which also claimed the life of another individual, occurred outside a residential building on Chekhov Street. An unknown assailant approached and threw a grenade, killing both men at the scene.

This is not the first incident of an explicit enemy of Ukraine killed in an apparent assassination. Seems a bit reckless to use a grenade though.

While I don't doubt Ukraine has operatives in Russia, I'm willing to bet this was a case of being a shitty person to a particularly wrong individual.

Or, maybe, Ukraine operatives aren't carrying out the assassinations, they find Russians that hold a grudge and stoke the fire. Provide a "bit of support." That way your operatives can create a much more powerful statement to Russians that "It's not a meme that you can't trust each other. Trusting someone gets you killed." Grow that sentiment big enough, and get the paranoid in power to do the work for you.
